F800GS Instrument Cluster Replacement
« on: June 03, 2013, 05:34:10 PM »
Replacing the instrument cluster on an F800GS produced a list of error codes.  The bike does not have TPMs, ESA or Alarm.

Check autoscan.

Put the original back (face was smashed in a fall) and errors are gone.

The new cluster also does not recognize the fuel or temp gauges.

Could this be an incorrect part fitted(newer version) or does it need to be configured by the dealers?

we have not worked with the replacement of controllers yet...

but from the autoscan I can see they have different part numbers...

the fault code:
37685
Discrepancy in values of total mileage between BMS-KP and KOMBI (instrument cluster)
The fault is currently present.

you will always get when replacing either a BMSK or a Cluster... as the mileage is backed up in the BMSK...  This can be fixed by BMW on a GT1.. from what I've learned, this can ONLY be done on a GT1  (if it is a used unit) as the the 3rd Generation MOSS only allows setting of the mileage on a NEW cluster (to promote the replacement of NEW units only)

is this a Used or a New cluster ?

Then it will need to be "matched" or "married" as well.. as every cluster saves the bikes VIN number etc, and if that's a mismatch, the unit bike will not be happy either...

I still intend to play with matching/replacement of Control units, but that's a bit down the line... too much else to do at this point...

best,
Stephan

Thanks for the reply Stephan

This is a new unit we attempted to fit to the bike after the original was destroyed in a fall.

I am aware of the mileage issue, which is not a problem.

Was just hoping to get the unit working without a visit to the dealership.

nope, unfortunately not... and as you can see it does not list an I-level either... so probably needs programming too...

BTW, what did the new Cluster set you back?

Sorry Stephan, only saw this now.

Cluster was R8700 and a bit of change.

37685 - Discrepancy in values of total mileage between BMS-KP and KOMBI

Hi all,

Please see quote regarding this fault as discussed in June 2013.
My question is can the GS-911 see what the mileage discrepancy  is between the BMS-KP and KOMBI units?

hi guys
most of the time it errors caused by coding
how ever i am not sure how badly damaged you unit is but what i did for a mate of mine was rebuilding the old unit into the new units plastics and removed and switched over the lcd screen that way we avoided coding issues and odometer flashing for incorrect millage
