I am having a problem with the brakes on a R1100RS.  I hope someone can assist.

The client burst one of the front caliper pipes.  He then replaced both pipes with the braided hoses and at the same time just replaced the master cylinder seals.  Result - No front brakes!  The first pull off the front brake lever feels as though there is no fluid in the reservoir.  Pressure slowly builds up, with some pressure after the 5th/6th pull.

The bike is now in my shop and I have personally bled the system completely with no change.  I am suspecting that there is now air in the ABS pump.  However, the GS911 is not able to talk to the pump controller.





I am hoping that, if I am able to talk to the controller, I will be able to bleed the air from it.  I have bled the top nipple on the pump itself but it has made no difference.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

This bike can have either the ABS2 controller or the Integral ABS.
If it has the Integral ABS controller then you will be able to bleed it with GS-911.

However, you first need to figure out why there is no comms with the controller.

When the bike is on, (and assuming that you have it in neutral, kill switch in RUN position etc. etc.) go to Tools->Setup and click on "Test interface".

This will show you the status of the K-line test.
Check that it says OK on both K-Lines.

It might be that there is a problem on the K-line of the ABS (K-Line 2) or that the diagnostic connector is not making proper contact.

It has the ABS prior to that still, this one.



It is on a '97 R1100RS.

I am using the 3-pin adapter.  I have just tested it on a pristine '98 R1100RT with the same pump and the results are exactly the same.   :o

Ignition on, Kill switch in run position, Neutral selected, sidestand retracted and bike on centrestand.

K-Line 1 stuck low.

The K-Line 1 "Stuck Low/high" is normal for this bike with the 3 pin connector (the engine controller is busy blinking out the error codes on that K-Line).

It should not make a difference, but could you toggle the mode switch on the adapter and try again?

However, even if we get comms with the ABS2 unit, there is no diagnostic assisted bleed functionality for this ABS module. These controllers are pretty simple from a diagnostic point of view.

Are  you sure that the master cylinder seal is working properly?

I have tried toggling the mode switch but it makes no difference.

Please send us the logs (Tools->Send Logs).

Also, send me a PM with your shipping details, I'm beginning to suspect the adapter.
VIN numbers of these bikes would also help.

Got this one sorted this morning.

I had to remove the front calipers, turn them horizontally, open the bleed nipple and then push each piston back manually, starting from the one furthest away from the nipple.

Appears to have had an airlock in the lower pistons.

The feed tube/bleed nipple orientation IMHO is a bit of a poor design.  They are situated right next to each other so the fluid just travels directly from the feed tube to the nipple without circulating through the caliper pistons.

Took me 2 days to find that out!! :o :o
