Problems connecting to a R1200RT??
« on: December 12, 2021, 11:50:39 PM »
I just purchased a 2017 R1200RT and I cannot connect it to my GS911. The 911 works fine with my F800st, but refuses to connect to my RT. First off, it is difficult to make the physical connection. It takes a little fiddling and some extra force. Once done, the LEDs don't function. I presume that the 911 is getting no power from the bike. I see no bent or deformed pins.
The 911 is an enthusiast's model, but it only has the F800 set to it.
Any suggestions on how I correct the problem?

You dont mention which model of GS911 it is, Yellow or the red GS911 WiFi ? plus on some model bikes there is another round 10 pin connector which can confuse people, I am not certain if the 1200RT is one of the models

Thanks. Tech support solved the problem for me. It required a square connector. The bike had both round and square, but the round was disabled.

2017 was when BMW introduced the Euro 4 models, which were fitted with the oblong form factor connector. The round connector may well be for something like the heated seat.

Hi All

Just to add here, the bikes with two connectors (e.g. K1600 for topbox connector and RTs), is listed in our FAQ below:
https://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/support/how-tos/how-to-loacate-the-diagnostic-connector-on-your-bmw-motorcycle

Regarding the Euro 4 models, some countries only received their 2016 models in 2017, so this bridging period is difficult to state it is going to be an OBD-II connector if it was bought in 2017. The best practice would be the above FAQ and our VIN decoder below:
https://www.hexinnovate.com/vin-decoder/

Bonus info :) the C-Evolution scooter from 2018+ still has the 10-pin round connector.

Kind regards
Ruan

Mine has the round 10 pin, but when plugged in to the GS9,11 it would not work. Only the oblong one worked when I finally got the adapter.

Hi Randyjaco

Yes, the 10-pin connector on that bike is not designed for diagnostic purposes, it is simply used for heated seats if I recall on the RTs.

Kind regards

On the RT the round connector is for the optional radio/speaker harness.

I have a 2016 RT and there is no round connector in for diagnostics there is only an oblong one

The only round one is under the rear seat which is for the brake light and central locking for the top box
