F800GS Oil light flashing
« on: October 08, 2024, 03:58:13 PM »
Greetings All,

I have a F800GS with a flashing oil light.  I ran a diagnostics test with my enthusiast unit and it comes up with the following error:
Elements Group Fuse 1 Active Turning Off P28CA.

I then removed the oil sender unit, connected an oil pressure gauge, there is sufficient oil pressure.  I read somewhere that the Engine Fan can get the oil light to flash.  I traced the wires to the engine ECU, if I unplug the engine ECU and put power to the fan, it runs fine.  Can someone maybe assist me with what all if powered with Elements Group Fuse 1 as there is absolutely nothing on Google and BMW are also not prepared to divulge anything.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Given that the GS-911 can turn on the fan via the ZFE I would be inclined to try that to see what results.
Hey BMW: No service manual = no new bike.

Yes I have tried activating it via the Engine ECU, no go. Because of the P28CA error message, the ZFE has deactivated the power suppy for the fan. You cannot activate it via the ZFE.

This is the reason I am asking what all is powered from the Elements Group Fuse 1. This way, I am able to work through solving the issue.

The fans on the F800 models is known to get stuck with road debris. Try reaching in and turning the fan by hand to see if its stuck. You can most often get it loosened up again by doing this. I've had this happen to both my F800Gs and my wife's FD800ST. both freed up easily this way.

The OP said that he put power to the fan and it runs fine.
