"Ignition is not ON" error message
« on: March 26, 2026, 10:07:38 PM »
On my GS-911 Wifi using Diagnostic Utility v2406.5
I can Autoscan, etc with the ignition off but when I try to connect to, say, "Vehicle Functions" this message is displayed:

"Error: Attempting to connect to this controller timed out.
Possible reasons:
Ignition is not ON
Kill switch not on RUN
Module is not fitted
Signal problem or faulty wiring"

I turn on the ignition.
The Ignition icon in the upper right corner changes to 'Ignition status: ON' for a few seconds and then reverts to 'Ignition status: OFF'.
I have gotten into this function before, albeit 2 years ago, and nothing has changed with the bike since then because the restoration work had stalled.

Anyone have a solution?
Is it required that the ignition must be on before I start up the Diagnostic Utility software?
I have not tested that. It doesn't seem to that would make sense because other functions seem to work with the ignition off.

Thank you,
CLA

surprised you can get anything with the key off

you never work on any vehicle key off - always key on for all functions on the GS911

the issues you say where it goes off on the corner of the GS911 display is wrong

might as a well double check your device is fully updated - they frequently change stuff and add features / remove bugs

https://www.hexgs911.com/news/   March 2026 release just came out - v2603.5 for general release from 31 march

next I would ensure the vehicle voltage is OK - add a battery charger to keep the bike happy

these electronics need a healthy stable voltage to behave correctly

Thanks for the info.
I've installed the new firmware and the Diagnostic for Windows,  v2603.5 and Android.

I've connected a battery charger and the voltage stays in the high 12 volts.
Whether I start the Diagnostic with the ignition on or turn it on after the error message I still see the same behaviour.
In the former case I have never managed to see the 'Ignition ON' icon in the notification bar go green and the key indicator move to the vertical position. In the latter case the key icon goes vertical and the circle turns green for 1 or 2 seconds then the Ignition not on error appears.

I see this behaviour on both Windows and Android apps.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, 2 yrs ago, using the Android Diagnostic I had gotten deep into the functions. Now, I cannot even connect to these features.

does the bike start ride and have all functions (lights indicators, cluster etc.) ?

something is very strange if above works but the tool can't show the ignition switch status - what condition is the bike? - is it std, low miles and good condition ?

if its playing up on the bike and the tool - two wear items might not be helping - ignition switches can wear - not the key, the switch beneath, and these days a main module the ZFE are starting to fail due to ageing - but these would likely present as real vehicle faults

ZFE's on cars these days are often referred too as body control modules - and really control lots of axillary functions like lights and systems (rather than brakes, transmission or engine control)
