Alarm system battery fault code won't clear
« on: March 26, 2024, 02:37:01 PM »
Hi,

Gs911 WiFi with Nov 2023 update on a 2021 S1000RR.

It turns out I have a fault code showing regarding my alarm system battery being empty. I've replaced the batteries and cleared all faults through the Auto scan so none show however I continue to have the big yellow empty alarm system battery fault showing on my dash after I switch the bike off and on again. No matter what I do I can't seem to clear it.

Does anyone know if the gs911 is capable of clearing this or is it a dealer only kind of thing.

Thanks.

Hi Morrington

Best would be to share an autoscan of your bike with the fault code present - download it as text and paste it in your response here.

Without any more info there really isn't much we can do to help unless someone has experienced this exact issue.

Kind regards
Ruan

Thanks for your reply.

I think that may be the problem. No fault is shown on the gs911 but the fault shows on the dash. It's as if the gs911 is not aware that there is a fault.
I'll do another autoscan later and see if anything changes.

Hi Morrington

That's strange, if the GS-911 doesn't recognise a fault that means it's something the ECU doesn't deem relevant to report as a fault, but I would suggest to scan the bike once the fault pops up, might be a different controller reporting it.

Kind regards

on the earlier bike when replacing the batteries its very easy to dislodge the two silly plugs that get the power on to the PCB - to make it pretty inside they twist the wires around each other till they end up too short

The 2021 alarm unit batteries are in a secondary compartment so no requirement to unplug wires from the pcb. To be honest I was grateful about that as having watched the YouTube vids on the old module I wasn't keen on taking it to pieces.

Here's the autoscan copy. The fault code still appears on the dash "Alarm system battery empty. No independent alarm. Make an appointment at a specialist workshop". Perhaps this particular fault is not able to be read by the gs911? If so can I submit a suggestion that it be looked into?

Hello
Just to clarify:
I don't think the integrated battery in the alarm system is monitored by the diagnostics.
This is what the instrument cluster shows: DWA!
Possible cause:
The integral battery in the antitheft alarm has lost its entire original capacity. There is no assurance
that the anti-theft alarm will be operational if the vehicle's battery is disconnected.

Did you ckeck the two new CR123A Lithium batteries and their connections?
Schönen Tag

Hi,

It's the gen 4 model so it shows a different fault on the dash but I'm sure it's essentially the same thing. I replaced the batteries with fresh ones but perhaps I've not seated them right. I'll open it back up and take another look and make sure they're not faulty with a multimeter.

I hadn't considered that the fault wouldn't show on diagnostics but that would explain why the gs911 wouldn't see it. I'll let you know how I get on.

After further digging,

The original batteries I removed still showed over 3V and a check of the contacts in the alarm module showed a break between the bridge of the 2 batteries. It looks like back to the dealer for a faulty alarm module, perhaps a replacement. Thanks for everyone's help.  :)
