Speedometer error after 30 minutes drive.
« on: April 18, 2017, 06:01:35 PM »
I have just bought a 2010 R1200GS, 3.000 km on the odometer. When I start my ride the speedometer is working fine. But after 30 or 40 minutes the needle does not return to zero, so the effect is that the speedometer is showing more and more speed everytime I accellerate. After 2 hours the speedometer shows 220 km/h when I drive 60 km/h.
It looks like a heating problem, but as I understand the meter is electronic.
I have found no error codes.

Anyone any idea what is causing the problem?

Kind regards, Jan

Hello Jan,
welcome to GS911 forum and sorry for being late to answer your question :)

Looks like losing power for the odometer in the dashboard. In my case, there was water in this Kombi
which distroyed the circuit board. So I  changed the dashboard.

By the way, build in 2010 and only small 3000 km? 8)
Schönen Tag

Yes, I have bougth the bike in Februari with just 1500km. the bike is as good as new.
Of course rubber and plastic parts have aged.
Anyhow, the problem with the speedometer was caused by the electro motor that drives the needle.
After replacing the motor the speedometer works fine.
