Adaptation Values
« on: March 17, 2017, 10:16:29 AM »
Hi
F650GS twin spark 2006.  Have just finished a 20000Km service and am going to reset the adaptation values.
My question is do you have to relearn them as on the 1200GS?
Thanks in advance
Paul

Yes the process is the same, reset adaptions and then rebuild by idling the machine until the fan kicks in. In the recent recall re the G650GS the instructions to the Dealers goes a little further and instructs them to let the fan cycle on/off twice

Hi Wayne
Just a quick question.  Having only reset adaptation values on the 1200GS where you run for at least 10 secs in each gear to relearn I am a little confused as to how to relearn the values on the F650GS.
If I read your comment correctly I reset the values and then run the bike until the cooling fan cuts in - is this correct?
Thanks for your help, is this procedure written down anywhere?
Cheers
Paul

Yes you idle the bike until the fan kicks without touching the throttle while it does it, it should be done when engine is initially cold, not certain where you read the 1200gs process but I think you will find there will be differences in the 1200GS process according to the year model/BMS fitted

In terms of documentation of the 650GS process the GS911 software tells you what to do, beyond that the US Dealer TSB's which have paragraphs explaining the procedure have been available over at f650.com in the FAQ for many years

There have been urban myths develop over what constitutes BMS reset procedures etc on the 650 and other models, they in part came about due to people (including a few dealer techs) applying procedures from old models to the new models instead of reading the manuals

Hi Wayne
Thanks for the quick reply.
With ref to the 1200GS the relearn procedure is in the software as you carry out the procedure.
