K1200GT: Fuel gauge level after calibrating new strip
« on: March 02, 2017, 11:14:25 PM »
I've hooked up a brand new fuel strip and calibrated it through the GS-911 as per BMW instructions (outside the tank, dry).

After calibrating, GS-911 says: "Calibration successful, but there are fault codes logged".

The fuel gauge now displays about halfway between the bottom and the first marking (see attachment).

It seems strange that the gauge is reading anything at all, since the strip is outside the tank and dry.

I've tried re-calibrating but the result remains the same.

Will this strip function normally when I insert it into the tank, or will it maintain the current position as its lowest level?

Thanks in advance.

So I got my panels back from the painters' :D

I've also re-calibrated the strip. I've hooked up a new battery and run the calibration again. Now the fuel gauge shows empty!

So I proceeded to build the strip back into the tank and hook everything up.

Inside the tank though, which is now filled about 1/3, the gauge still reads empty. ::)

I can't wait to put the bike back together and take it for a spin.

Let's lust hope the gauge will magically start indicating some fuel is in the tank...
