F650GS Autoscan

Paul Hoffmann:
Hi Wayne

Just visited the BMW dealer in Portugal and I can't convince them that there is an update for the bike.
I don't think they are impressed with me having a way of looking at the electronics.
I watched then input the correct VIN but running an autoscan when i got home showed no change.  My major problem here is the language and also they are 4 hours away.
If I leave the situation as it is I am correct in assuming that everything else on the GS911 will work correctly when I hook it up to the 650GS?
I hope this makes sense, I have attached a copy of todays autoscan.
Regards

Paul

Firstly re VIN, look at the compliance plate on the bike and confirm the VIN stored in the BMSCII is different to that on the compliance plate

Re firmware version, there are 190ED606, 200ED606 EU2 compliant firmware updates for your machine and then a 210ED620 EU3 update in 2010

I dont know whether the Dealership you went to was an Authorised BMW Dealer but if they were they deserve a kick in the butt. They should know only too well there are updates available and should have been applied to the bike during normal servicing years ago

On the 650GS models the VIN and mileage is manually entered by the tech at the dealership when programming. Where an invalid VIN is entered the next time the bike is connected to the programming application it prompts the tech to ask whether to use the VIN or correct it. Once corrected the application then prepares a "measures plan" and determines which firmware version should be programmed into the BMSCII, the tech has limited ability to change it.

You are correct the Autoscan you attached does not show they made any changes

Yes GS911 will work fine, the bike however would be much better updated to at least 200ED606 firmware

Paul Hoffmann:
Hi wayne
Thanks for the reply, yes they are an authorised dealer and yes they do deserve a kick in the butt.
My opinion of two dealers now in Portugal is they are not interested unless they can charge you for the servicing so I think I will wait until I take the bike back to the UK and don't have a language problem.
At least it will not stop me using the 911 on the bike.
Regards
Paul

No worries Paul, waiting til you are back in the UK is probably a wise move, understand though that the failure of Dealers to do updates during normal servicing was a frustration of a BMW Oz rep I spoke to earlier in the year. I mean if a Dealer looked and saw a machine needed an update, a quick call to the owner saying it would cost a couple of $ in the time taken to do it would not annoy an owner, they would thank the Dealer for being diligent yet owners all round the world report the dealers are not updating machines
