Your voltages suggest the communication from the switch cluster is via a LIN bus, not CAN.  CAN voltages usually top out at around 3.5 volts, while LIN voltages are higher.

2021 R18 but topic would generally apply to all CAN bus BMWs.

I had to replace the plastic cruise control controls on the left-hand switchgear.  Like most of my work, I fixed one thing and broke another.  Now the cruise control works, however, the horn and turn signals stopped working.  The other functions on the switchgear work - cruise control, flashers, high beam, menu, aux lights.

All the functions run off 3 CAN bus wires - 12V, CAN L, and CAN H.  They are getting 12V, 7V, 7V to ground with ignition on.  So, I am thinking the problem is on the switchgear.

I have disconnected the battery to reset the bike control units but no help.

Is there a way to read the CAN bus data to see if the horn and turn signal buttons are sending any data?

Any other diagnostic advice is appreciated.

did you dismantle the switch or swap the entire thing ?

if you swapped it out - is the new one OK - everything plugged in - maybe plug in the old one and see where you are - no need to mount it to the bike

these things are strange and sometimes multiple versions exist - dependant upon the toys on a given bike -
on my GS they all behave differently but you'd think they were all compatible parts - they are not - they don't just switch - they use weird beard different resistances and magically different wires connected up inside to the multiplug

you must match the exact same part number

example

01    Combination switch left       1          61319467929    (says cruise)
01    Combination switch left       1          61319467931

I am sorry, I do not understand.  I can see some real time values like temperature and horn on, etc. with my GS-911. However, I cannot sniff the real time CAN buss data packets.

Hello

This is what the GS911 is designed for.
Here you can read the real-time data in the Body Controller Lite XBCL and check its functionality.

if you have stored the wrong set of digits on your bike - the sensor will still wake as you ride (but you'll not know it) >40mph for a few miles is a safe bet....

then you need a spare KEY !!!   you need to get at the diagnostic socket without turning off the Key - connect up and code the correct details you should be able to see now the senor is alive - you get around 15mins from stopping the engine - I forget I think the kill switch causes the same mess up as Key off - I just stall the bike to shut the engine up and to stop it melting

GS-911 / Re: Body Controller "No response from the controller"

Just bought the GS911 and my first  AutoScan on my 2022 BMW 1250 GSA comes up with - Body Controller "No response from the controller" I tried scanning the bike with the Melon Sandbox engine on and off but still get the same error. Can anyone shed some light on this please

On 2022 R1250 GSA models the Body Controller (BDC) isn’t always accessible with GS-911 yet—BMW moved a number of functions into the BDC2 unit and support is still being updated. “No response from the controller” usually just means the tool can’t talk to that ECU, not that it’s faulty. Your bike will still scan fine otherwise. Make sure your GS-911 has the latest firmware and PC/WiFi software; if it still shows the same, it’s a current limitation of GS-911, not an issue with your bike.

R1200 models / Re: Ok, am I a complete idiot????

Just received the GS-911wifi for my 2014 R1200RT LC. It is impossible that I can see to plug the bike plug into the GS-911. Here is why: Looking inside the plug there are 3 "keys" that align the two pieces together. Two of them are toward the bottom of the plug at the 5 and 7 o'clock positions. The GS-911 has slots in the plug to engage these two "keys" (for bloodmoney lack of a better term) at the same position which is as it should be. The bike plug has another "key" at the 11 o'clock position. This is viewed with the red tab at the bottom. The simple idiotic problem is that the GS-911 has it's top slot in the 1 o'clock position. There is no way the two parts can engage.

What the hell is wrong? This is really frustrating.
