I think the form is a great idea because it allows users to easily search back and find old problems.

I've been riding BMW motorcycles since 2005 and have been using the GS-911 since just after that.

I speak mainly English, though I live in The Netherlands.

Exactly.
Also, receiving lot of mails can be a bit frustrating for some users.
With the forum you can read it at your own leisure (or set notifications if you want to) and it's easier to keep context.
