Title: 10 vin. limit
Post by: TRJeff on July 31, 2014, 10:11:59 PM
I am not sure if I understand the 10 vin. limit with the enthusiast version. When using a PC I am limited to 10 vin#, but if I use my I Phone I am not restricted because of "emergency use" Is this correct or am I limited to 10 on the I Phone and 10 on PC?

I am sure others will answer your question, better than me.
This is described on the Hexcode site, in detail.
Short, "service" operations are limited to 10 VIN`s.
To read faults, reset faults, do logs and so on does NOT need a VIN input.
Few GS911 owners need more than the 10 VIN limit, unless they work on BMW bikes.
Here you find the "specs"- enthusiast/ pro

If I am on the road and offer to help a fellow BMW rider and use my I Phone will I use up 1 vin#?

As the "compare" chart tell, You can not do "service" with a phone, so there is no limit at all.

A more detailed description of the VIN limit can be found here.

In short, I have helped many owners, using my tiny "portable" laptop.
I never used a VIN for that as no service functions.
The "mobile" or "phone" software do NOT support "service" functions.
In short, unless you do not read the Hexcode links:
You can not and will never use any of the 10 VIN numbers using a moblie.
End of this, when using a PC, you are always ASKED if you want to register a new VIN before it is done.
If you never got that question and agreed, you have 10 VIN`s to "use"  :-)

NO!  that's why we split the functions into Emergency (not affected by VIN) and Service (limited to 10 VINs)

so if on the road you Read or Clear Fault codes.. or check realtime values (typical non-start conditions are sidestand switch, kill sw, clutch sw etc...) these you can do on a million bikes if you want...

Pls read the FAQ's... lot of good info there... ;-)
