I get this message, Error while writing to socket,”when trying to get my GS911 to find my wifi connection. I've done all the updates using USB, I've removed the program and reinstalled it, I've checked that my wifi is on 2.4 GHz. I'm out of ideas so I need help.

Also the wifi light on the GS 911 varies from solid red to flashing red to completely off.

Try this for excample:
pushing the "Mode Switch Button" for 60 seconds will reset your GS911 wifi.
Then connect it with usb cable and check for updates.

I held the mode switch for the 60 seconds, updated as suggested.
No change though, still the same message.

Error writing to socket is a TCP/IP error, a little more detail of what you are doing would be needed, PC ?, Windows version ?, using the WiFi Utility or connecting to the GS911 in D2D mode ?, WiFi modem/router make/model ?
While it is rare, there are some WiFi modem/routers which struggle with the initial connection sequence from embedded devices like GS911

PC, Windows 7, Wifi utility. Here's all the information on my modem router Bell 3000 modem router, home hub 3000, sagecom, fast 5566.

OK, understood, the 3000 looks like quite a beast, cant see a manual for it but I would not expect it to cause a problem
First check Win7 firewall is not causing problems plus check USB is not power saving and causing problems
You could put the GS911 into D2D and connect to it from your PC or smart phone to enter your WiFi network details

Windows 7 and Norton firewalls disabled and still the same message.

I just changed the mode to 'USB is not in power saving mode'
Still doesn't work.

OK that eliminates 2 possibilities, I would suggest you go to D2D mode direct between the PC and GS911 and confirm you have comms direct between the devices which would then isolate the problem to being the log in type/security settings on the Home Hub 3000

Problem is fixed. :)
My original router was replaced and when that was done the password was updated. When the password was updated in the program everything was solved
