I understand typing in the verification numbers... but why the stupid questions? Are you just trying to keep people from posting? Please turn that OFF!
-
I agree. I just had to go research the maximum torque output of an R1200GS LC in order to post. That is pretty lame.

It is not lame, or stupid.
The reason is to prevent botnets.
I am sure you would complain if there were malware attacks as a result.
Once you have posted a few more times, there will be no more questions.

Yeah, it's lame. The questions could be stuff you don't have to look up, like "what color is a blue sky?", not "what is the max torque of a R1200GS LC". i don't need to know that. I don't have an LC. Detailed tech questions about BMW specs and GS911 VIN numbers are gross overkill and not needed to keep bots at bay.

It's not lame.
I don't think botnets is the problem here. It's the spamming factories based in low cost countries that have a human behind every post. Everyone knows what color a blue sky is but the spammers will go for lower hanging fruit when they need to know the torque of a specific bike or similar for an unknown number of posts.
I'm very happy this forum so far have an effective spam-prevention strategy that sort out almost only the people we want here.
Once you know, please don't reveal here what number of relevant posts are necessary to avoid the questions, as that may increase the spam again and that really s*ck...
By the way, welcome to the forum both of you!

It's a big problem when it won't accept a correct answer. My question was "Which side is the driveshaft on a R1200GS?" I answered "right". It said I was incorrect! I then tried "right side" and "the right". Nothing worked. I gave up. Incredibly annoying and unnecessary. >:(

I got that question too, except if I recall correctly it was asking about the swingarm on an R1200GS LC. In that case, the answer is "left", and it accepted that.

unfortunately... it is to prevent all kinds of crap on the forum... we've had every conceivable viagra add to counterfeit software being advertised... :-[
We did try the authentication with very generic "blue sky" questions... and it was better... but by no means as good as it is now...
I know it's a pain... but it's only one time... and if there are questions that really make you scratch your head or waste your time... let us know... and we'll improve where we can... (yes, our technical director... is ughm... very technical... and sometimes forgets that the rest of us just love riding our bikes ;-) ) but unfortunately we can't have the forum overrun by spam...
best

It is a little annoying, but I take it as an opportunity to learn about the bikes the tool services. No big deal.
