Title: Code Questions
Post by: Randyjaco on December 18, 2021, 07:33:03 PM
I just ran my GS911 on my new to me 2017 R1200RT and got two codes that have me puzzled (0nly 4000 miles). The first code is 80401 Tank Switch Error. I presume that it means that my gas cap is open. Since it doesn't show up on my dash, and it requires the 911 to discover it, do I really care or does it lead to other problems? (my gas cap is very hard to open, and I presume the sensor is damaged)
The next is 800029 Anti-theft alarm activation. Is it important and is there a way to track it down?

Another issue which was annoying was that the app/computer kept wanting to rescan.
I would be in the real time function portion of the program, and it would constantly revert to the intro screen asking me for the type bike and would I to do a scan. My GS911 is an enthusiast model and my RT is the second bike on it.

That brings up another question. The closest selection for my bike was "1200rt 2014+", yet there were selection for other R1200's specifying 2017. Mine is a K52 designation, and there were other models/years with the same K52 designation; even bikes with different displacements (ie. R1250's) Did I pick the correct option?

I get both these codes on occasion also, I ignore and clear the tank switch error every time (would get it on both my 2015 and 2018 R1200GS) as I could never figure out why, maybe fob not close enough or something, it refers to a short circuit but I don't think that applies. Does it show up all the time or just once in a while? My code also had a D at the end of the numbers. The https://bmwfault.codes/ site will give you a page explaining the codes.
Did you accidently trigger your alarm? That is why I get mine or maybe someone messed with your bike and the alarm did its job.

At this point, I have only had the bike for 10 days and haven't even tried to figure out the alarm system. I still have a good bit of the learning curve to tackle :D

Re the App wanting to rescan, we would need to know more detail on whether it was the PC App & software version or browser GUI you were using to be able to assist, I suspect you have the GS811 WiFi round 10 pin model based on the other thread so the question is whether the firmware in it is updated. All up though I would definitely lodge a support ticket, unusual for  it to want to rescan repeatedly

It was on the PC software tethered directly to the bike

OK understood but there are 2 PC Apps, the legacy GS911 version & the new rewritten GS911 Diagnostics version, knowing which App & what the version No is would be needed to assist, they are the first questions support would ask you

Does this tell you what you need to know? I tried to download the latest today, but it wouldn't let me. I couldn't find anything on the website that would confirm if I was up-to-date. Likewise, I did update my Android software. Will the Android software update the firmware, or does it have to be done by the PC?

OK that is the firmware in the GS911 & it is up to date, both of the PC Apps tell you the App name & version at the top of the App window

Where did you find that my soft/firmware was up-to-date? I sure didn't see it on the website.

I am aware of what is the the latest release version due to the beta testing & I did an update on a GS911 WiFi last week

Your GS911 should have reported "up to date" if you used the browser GUI Update button or the WiFi Utility
