Ignition timing

(1/1)

Stefanb:
Hello, I'm trying to set the ignition timing on my 1150 gs using the gs 911. It says to set the trigger point at 0,24 mm before tdc. There is not enough adjustment range on the hes plate to do that. All the other sources advise to set the trigger point at tdc.
Which is the correct way?

schuppi:
Hi,
did you use the required tooling equipment (dial gauge) to set these 0,24 mm BTDC?
For comparison only, that will be around 6° BTDC :)

"All the other sources advise to set the trigger point at tdc" >> only for the older R 1100

Stefanb:
Hi,
Yes, I am using a dial gauge to set the piston at 0.24 mm before tdc just like it is recomended. There is not enough adjustment to do that. You can set the HES plate at TDC and 5-8 mm before or after.

If that is the way it should be done for the 1100 than it should be the same for the 1150

marchyman:
My R1100GS manual states ignition timing is at TDC -- Motronic converts TDC value to 6° before TDC

My R1150GS manual states "Adjustment at TDC".  The procedure isn't helpful, though.  "Connect BMW MoDiTeC with adapter cable to Hall-effect gate plate.  Set the timing, following the tester instructions."   Right.

FWIW a search for .24 mm doesn't turn up anything.  My manual is dated 02/00

schuppi:
Hi marchyman,
you're right! Just looked for other specifications, here double ignition,
but for every Motronic the same result. > Static adjustment in TDC.

I never checked this setting value as GS911 suggested ;)

This is something that the GS911 guys have to modify ;D
