Controller non-recognition
« on: June 25, 2015, 08:03:09 AM »
I have a 2001 R100S that just quit running the other evening.  After getting it home i tried to connect my gs911.  No matter what I do, I get the message that the controller is not recognized.  I also get a message that the battery only has 5.0 volts.  I know that isn't true because I connected a new battery and still get the same results.  The engine will turn over, but not fire.  I suspect the Hall sensor, but am unable to run a any analysis to confirm.  Has anyone run into this non recognition problem?  tia  jb

Hello Jack,

in case of these 5V, at first check fuse F4 15A. And in addition the relays for DME in the fusebox at the left side in front of the
fuel tank.
Then we search for other issues.

The F4 fuse is good, but I can find no reference to the DME relays.  Which one/ones are they in the left relay bank?  Front to back there is a yellow, two small black and one larger black relay.

Update.  The F4 fuse is bad.  It does not show as blown, but a quick meter check showed it as open.  Am able to run the gs911 now and solve the run problem.  Many, many thanks for all your input.  A greatful jb  :-)

All respect to schuppi for the impressive remote troubleshooting!

In case anybody like me became curious about the bike model (there was no R100S in 2001), it is a R1100S.
