2011 R1200GS - right hand heated grip not working

G'day,

After a ride in the cold today, I noticed the right hand heated grip is not working on either the low or high setting. The left hand one is working normally. I plugged in the trusty GS911 and it shows the following fault code.

 1 fault codes found:

 41741 Heated Grips, open-circuit
 The fault is currently present.

 And, of course the warranty expired last July.

 Just wondering if any one has any thoughts on the best way to locate the actual fault?

 I also think I will call BMW to see if they will fix it for free anyway under "goodwill".

 I am a little reluctant to pay a dealer $134/hour to isolate the fault and fix it.

 The bike has about 107,000 km on it.

 I have never removed, or tampered with the control switch on the handlebars, so I am a bit shy to start frigging around with it too much.
