K1600 Misfire but No report on GS911
« on: April 03, 2026, 03:47:06 PM »
My late 2017 K1600 GT now has a serious misfire
I duly logged in with my today updated GS911 and there is no report of any problems in engine controller.

I have one error relating to the security something (probably flat battery on the remote)

Is this possible and is there any advice on how to I proceed from here?

pretty sure BMW were too lazy to add any diagnostics on the coils

the coil sticks are absolute budget junk on the K16 that are lucky to make 20 k miles - mine started to play up at 10 k miles and it had never even been out in the rain - modern BMW bikes are designed to just about reach the end of a very short warranty period and then pumps and electrics start to randomly give up - all part of the recent sick lease it and scrap it philosophy most manufacturers have moved too

throw a set in or if tight - measure the exhaust header outlet temps at the cylinder end with a laser thing and replace the colder ones

Though on my 2013 I did find the coil misfire indicated just after I bought the GS911 diagnostic. At that time I replaced only the defective coil and the bike is still without problems today and at 32k km.

I will check the exhaust temps with thermal camera (lucky to have one). But maybe I should just replace the whole lot because this (2017) bike now has also 32k on the clock and has not had a problem yet so likely it is due.
I also will just check the fuel. Somehow nagging feeling that this misfire started not long after I filled up at a fuel station I have not used for years.

Thanks for your response. Seems the Hex forum is kinda dead if you ask me.
