R1200RS Transmission Reset problem
« on: May 01, 2025, 02:21:48 PM »
Hello all

I’m new here although I’ve been using my GS911 successfully for a number of years.

I have tried to do a Transmission Reset procedure on my 2015 RS that I’ve owned from new and maintained for over 6 years.

I followed this YouTube video to the letter.

https://youtu.be/cX0KjkIjuvA?si=oTGS0lw5y_cvJoJm

I’m not getting any flashing gear number indicator when running up through the gears.

The voltage changes are tiny and probably just measurement variations.

Any ideas where I’m going wrong.

I updated the software today before I started.

Peter

Hi Peter

Thanks for the details, best practice would be to run an autoscan to see whether there are any faults stored, that will point you in the right direction of what needs to be done.

As your bike is a 2015 model, it will not be equipped with the TFT displays as that of the 1250 in the video, hence not the same expected behaviour. With the older models, there is no visual indication of when the gear calibration is completed, so you will just need to ride it in each for 10 seconds minimum. I'm not sure whether your bike is equipped with the quick shifter, but if it is not equipped, then you won't really notice anything different on the shift experience unless you use clutchless shifting. Personally, I find clutchless better the longer one rides, and more stubborn after a reset.

Kind regards and safe travels
Ruan

Thank you. Yes the bike does have gear shift assist. I do think that the recalibration worked but no change to the shifting. It’s okay anyway and I was just looking for possible improvement. No faults that wouldn’t clear.

Hi Peter

I can honestly say that the first quick shifter from BMW for R-series bikes that felt good and not violent, was the 2021 + version. The reset should improve it, but my experience is that it is a minor improvement, at best.

Kind regards
