knock sensor 2 defective

Just purchased a GS911 and ran an autoscan on my 1200R. The report came up with a fault code "10210 knock sensor 2 defective. The fault is not present now." How would you recommend to go about working on this fault? Thanks in advance for the pointers.

What Stephan ask for  :)

A bit too often the ECU (BMS- or whatever the bikes computer is named) store faults.
Faults that are not important. Reset the faults, start the bike and check once more.
The "Autoscan" show a lot more information, not the least when the the error popped up and for how long there WAS a fault.

Hi Stephan, Thanks for the respond. Below is the autoscan printout. I'm not sure if the freeze frame data is included. By the way I'm aware of my faulty tyre pressure sensor which I'm about to replace. It's only surprise me when I learned this knock sensor defective fault code. Wondering if I should replace them all at once. But before that just want to know if the sensor was really faulty or just data log error..

OK, let's start from the top.

what we know:
  • We see it is a R1200R.
  • We know it now has 78299.0 km on the odo
  • We also see that the Fault codes are NOT present... now that could mean that they are intermittent OR that the problem has been addressed/fixed but the fault codes never cleared....

Now from the Fault code history we see the following:
  • the fault occurred at 78176.0km - that is 123 km ago
  • we also see that it occurred at 1440rpm
  • we also see that the logistic counter is at 27

The logistic counter starts at 40 for most codes and then decrements every "cycle" that the fault is not present... Now what exactly a "cycle" is, is unknown... and I suspect it might differ from fault code to fault code... for some it might be ignition cycles for others it might be engine reaching operating temperature etc... (naturally it will reset back to 40 if the fault occurs again)

In either case, I suspect that fault was not repaired... BUT, that still does not mean that something needs to be done...

Next we need to consider the context... this is a knock sensor... it measures vibration.. it might have gotten a hard knock from another source (someone banged a hammer against the engine  - I hope not), or the sensor might even be loose (normally tightened to the engine with a bolt - naturally if it is loos, it will loose it's ability to "feel" the mechanical vibrations...)
On the other hand, it could be a loose or dirty connector... or poor connection...

Check all of the above (mounting, connections - maybe even clean the connections  ...then reset the code... and check it frequently...

Hi Stephan, I'm getting the idea now in usage of this GS911 tool. I'm sure there's plenty more to learn. But this is a good start. Thank you. Now just need to google out where the hell is this knock sensor...

Knock sensor is mounted on rear side of each cylinder.Google knock sensor R1200 and you will see how it looks like.Cylinder no.2 is left cylinder.
