An odd ABS problem
« on: February 01, 2025, 08:36:26 PM »
Got back from a 2300 mile run up to Maine and back on/off road (2016 R1200GS) with an ABS fault. Dug at the 911 and it reports 0x480A05 on the front. Went ahead and bled down the brakes and cycled the pump through 911 diags. Went out the next morning to check it over and the front brake lever no longer compresses. If I crack the brake line at the lever it moves fine so the pump is not letting any flow through the front system. I confirmed this by cracking both caliper bleed screws and well and still cannot compress the front brake lever. Anyone seen this condition??

A follow up on this...  Well I did 4 "GS Bleed Cycles" noting that the idiot light came on about 500 miles before we got back home. I fear either the ABS ECU or pump have died. Odd though that I had brakes the rest of the way home and did not get locked out of the front ones until I did a flush. Oh well, I'll tear down to those components tomorrow and see what's what. The "implausible P1" is my primary clue...

Fault Code Value 0x480A05
Fault Code Description Pressure sensor, control circuit, front, implausible P1
Currently present YES
Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) YES
Frequency count 1

It sounds like you've encountered a tricky ABS issue with your 2016 R1200GS! It's great that you've already gone through the diagnostics and brake bleeding. One possibility could be a faulty ABS pump or a blockage in the main line. Have you considered checking the connections or any debris? By the way, while troubleshooting, why not take a break and enjoy the "Bad Parenting" game for some laughs? It might lighten your mood!

If there was any debris or air trapped in the modulator, it could be causing a hydraulic lock.
