Abnormally poor fuel economy on R1200GS 2012
« on: January 05, 2023, 10:06:15 AM »
Hi all. I have owned four R1200GS, the last 3 being twin cams. I have ridden these bikes a total of about 360,000km. I have used an MRA screen on all bikes and the same panniers. I am very familiar with how they perform under various load and riding styles. My current bike, a 2012 R1200GS, has measurably poor fuel economy compared to the previous 3 bikes. When i first bought it with 15,000km on the odo it used about 0.2 to 0.3 L/100km more than normal for the conditions. I have to add 0.6 L/100km to the dashboard readout of fuel economy to match the actual calculated economy. The bike now has 86,000km on the odo and the excessive consumption has got worse, now using about 0.5 L/100km more than normal, however I still have to add 0.6 to the dash readout to match actuals. On my previous bikes the inaccuracy of the dash readout was more like 0.1 to 0.2. I understand that I can attach the GS911 and record the fuel injection inputs in real time, then download the file for analysis, but I have never done this.
Anyway, any suggestions and help would be appreciated.

Just a suggestion.  try cleaning the MAF sensor located inside the air filter box  Use any MAF Cleaner spray from any automotive parts store

There is NOT a MAF sensor on a twin cam GS.
