Tank Switch Error ?
« on: September 19, 2022, 10:52:04 PM »
My 2017 BMW R1200RT is throwing a 80401d code.(Tank Switch Error) I tried to get into the XSLX controller to figure out what is wrong and fix it. I can't get into the service mode for that module. So where do I go from here? Any suggestions on what I can do to fix it?

I do know that holding down the little switch doesn't eliminate the code  :(

Hi Randy

To ensure that we see the correct details (ECU info/bike details/fault codes), always add a full autoscan of your bike to your threads, you can run an autoscan and select download, this will provide it in a text format to copy paste.

Regarding the fault code, the description from the service manual is as follows:
Quote
The electronic immobiliser EWS control unit detects a short circuit of the fuel filler cap switch.

And the suggested service plan:
Quote
Check wires, wiring harness and plug connectors to the fuel filler cap switch.
Check the plug connection between wiring harness and EWS.
Check fuel filler cap switch.

Kind regards
Ruan

I have had this error on my 2015 and 2018 R1200 GS a couple of times, I have never had any noticeable issue other than the code showing up in the scan. It always says the fault is not present now. I just delete it and carry on.
