ABS - Incorrect variant error
« on: April 22, 2023, 09:47:57 PM »
I have a 2011 F650GS (twin) with ABS.

The red exclamation mark warning came up on the Kombi.

An autoscan found the following ABS fault code:
25536 Incorrect variant coding of the control unit.

The GS-911 says the installed ABS variant is:
K72 650cc/K70

My wife's bike is a 2010 F650GS (twin) also with ABS.

Her bike has the same variant.

I Googled the error message and only got one relevant hit. That same error message surfaced on an F800GS on which the ABS unit had been changed.

The ABS unit has not tbeen changed on my bike. I have owned it since new.

The GS-911 can clear the fault code but it reappears as soon as the ignition is cycled.

I gather that ABS is disabled with this fault present.

I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to proceed.

Thank you.

When was the last time your 2011 year model bike was serviced at a Dealer ?

Just wondered if an update in iLevel was done in a routine service, so rule that out

Do you have any old autoscans showing what was reported previously ?

No I don't have any old autoscans but there was nothing unusual. I typically do one a year.

I would have a Dealer look at it with ISTA & see what it has to say, coding should not change of it's own accord
