Connecting a Garmin Zumo to the Hex ezCAN

Hello from Knysna, South Africa.
I connected the spotlights on my GS1200 successfully to the Hex ezCAN but can't get my Garmin GPS to be powered by the ezCAN using the auxiliary (white) port. The Garmin powers up for a minute or so and then switches off, and then 30 seconds later it powers up again, then off again, and so on. I increased the power from the auxiliary port using my laptop but the Garmin still didn't work.I could not get much help from the ezCAN distributor, GPS 4 Africa. They said they recommend to rather connect the Garmin to the bike's existing GPS wiring. But this seems to defeat the whole purpose of the ezCAN? Anyone out there who has connected their Garmin successfully to the ezCAN?

George-old-boy here ;-). How's life on the garden route?

I had a Zumo for many years (before it got solen in the USA) and it only has Power and ground.. so nothing fancy to it!! hence it does not make sense that it does not power up on your ezCAN

what ezCAN do you have Gen-I or Gen-II ?

could you post a pic of your setup (screenshot of the configuration app)

also what is your Fuse cutoff set at?

have you tried on another output channel?

Hi Stephan - good to hear from someone who comes from this area!
Garden Route is fine - still feels like motorbike heaven to me as an ex-JHB person!
My ezCAN is a Generation II model. I increased the fuse setting but don't remember to how high. Will check it out and send you a screenshot. I gave up with the exCAN and my Garmin is now connected directly to my battery but I'm sure there is a solution somewhere.

no worries - interested what your configuration is though, as the Aux output literally just switches the Vbat through to the output

another problem could be that the Zumo was powered from the trigger wire and not the Power pin (just fishing here)

I have a ezCan  Gen I and I connected my Garmin 396LT Zumo to be powered on the white wire and it works fine.  I did have issues with the actual Garmin mount not making contact so it did not have constant power.  I solved that by cleaning the contact points and placing a small piece of sticky paper on the mount to act as a shim to tighten the connection when the unit is when it is in the mount.  I have it mounted on a 2019 r1250gs.

Did you have to increase the fuse setting for the white wire?

I don’t remember setting it so I just went out and looked, it was set to 4amps, I noticed there is a inline fuse on the power cord that is 2amps

yes I recon a Zumo should draw around 1 Amp...

let me see what i can find... here we go User manual :
Usage: 15 W max. @ 13.8 VDC

So that's just over 1 Amp, so a 2 Amp setting should be just fine...

I doubt that was your issue.. there is a poor contact somewhere.. it triggers the device to switch on.. but without power it goes into it's sleep cycle again...

I had the setting on 4 amps, so agree the power setting is not the issue.
Will check the contacts again. I had my BMW repair shop connect the Zumo bracket to the existing BMW 1200 GPS mounting - maybe it's not a great fit.
