Setting "Motorcycle Date"

I just received my GS-911wifi.  After I reset the service reminder on my 2016 R1200 GS, I noticed that the "motorcycle date" is April 4, 2000, i.e., on a motorcycle built in 2015.  I don't know how that date got set in the bike. 

Is the "motorcycle date" supposed to be the current date?

Yes the date should be current date, there will be an ability to set the date via the dash (see your manual) or using the GS911, look around the menu's
