New here
« on: June 18, 2019, 11:29:47 AM »
Hi all,

I am new here, I just bought a GS911 from a former BMW owner in the UK.

I have a 2015 S1000RR and a 2017 S1000XR

The RR is being replaced soon (hopefully) by a 2019 RR

I need to get the adapter cable for my XR as it has the D type OBD connector.

I also need to download the right software, I have a PC and an iPad pro, I guess the PC would be the one to use as the iPad has no USB connections.

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark, and welcome.

Did you purchase the yellow USB/Bluetooth unit or the red Wifi unit?  Since you are concerned about your iPad not having USB connections, I can only assume it is the yellow USB/Bluetooth model.

Before purchasing adapter cables and the like, first check for compatibility with your bikes here: http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/function-chart

Hi,
I have the Red WiFi version, I just received the adapter cable for my 2017 XR.

I have downloaded the IOS version of the GS911 software, will give it a try later with my iPad pro.

I might also try the Windows version as well.

Thanks for the reply.

Kind regards,

Mark.

You actually don't need to download any software for the red WiFi unit.  You can access it from any browser.  Just put it in D2D mode, connect to the GS911 WiFi AP, and type in 10.0.0.1 in the browser address bar.  You will then be talking to the GS911 directly via the internal software.

Hi,
So I connected to my GS-911WIFI using my iPad Pro and the IOS version of the software.
All seems OK, I can see the various controllers, decode fault codes and reset some of them, however when I tried to use the Service function it says I must use the PC version

Is this the usual case?

Kind regards,

Mark.

Hi again,
How do I invoke D2D mode?
I looked up Device 2 Device mode, but I don’t know how to activate it.

Kind regards,

Mark.

Hi Jughead,

OK, now I get it, I am reading the user guide and it’s clear that the service functions only on the PC version.

I will download the PC version and try again to invoke the service function.

Kind regards,

Mark.

According to the Function Chart you should be able to reset the service reminders on the XR directly when connected via normal WiFi connection.

Note, however, that the service reset function uses cloud functionality, so you would need access to the cloud from the same device that you are using to connect to the GS911.

Unfortunately most devices like iPads, tablets and smartphones only permit 1 external connection, meaning that if you use that 1 connection to establish comms to the GS911 in D2D mode, you then have no comms to the cloud.  This is not a GS911 restriction.  This is a restriction from the iPad/tab/smart phone.

If you are connecting via a standard WiFi network connection, you should be able to access the service functions.

The D2D mode is activated by pressing the small button on the back of the GS911.

Connect the device to the diag port on your bike.  Press the small red button on the back of the unit so that the D2D LED lights up.  You will now have an AP named GS911_XXXXX (where "XXXXX" is your device serial number).  Simply connect to it and open 10.0.0.1 on your device browser.

Hi Jughead,

Thanks for all your advice, I decided to download the PC version and use that to connect to the GS911 WiFi.

I was then able to reset the service date as I wanted to.

I think I will use the PC in preference to the iPad in future.

Thanks again for your help.

Kind regards,

Mark.
