I-Level for 2008 R1200RT
« on: June 29, 2017, 07:48:08 AM »
I have read the recent posts on I-Levels and wonder (before I go to a Motorrad dealer) does anyone know what the latest I=Levels would be for a 2008 R1200RT.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

The iLevel is done on model series so the current iLevel for your machine is K024-16-11-500 ie the last change was 11th month of 2016

Your machine is currently Actual I-Level: K024-10-08-500 ie was previously updated to 8th month 2010

It left the production line with Factory I-Level: K024-08-08-500, 8th month 2008

The "Part No" shown for each ECU in the autoscan is the actual firmware revision info for the ECU

eg  BMSKP - Part No.: 7722565 means firmware file 7722565

I am unaware of any one compiling lists of all the firmware revisions for the K024 model ECU's as we have done for the 650GS models

H Wayne,

Thanks for the reply.

From your earlier posts I understood the model/year/month combination, but your information about the current I-Level is interesting. BTW it's not my bike, but a club member who hired our Club's GS-911 to assist during the bike service. He had reported a problem whereby the bike stalled after running in rain, so was keen to see if any faults were stored, plus the ABS system needed a fluid change.

If only we knew what the updates were for between 2010 and 2016.

I'll let him know the latest level, and then it is up to him to see if he wants to visit a dealer for the updates (at least that would rule out any outdated s/w causing faults).

Ref. the F/W revisions, do you know if the dealers update that as well?

Thanks for your help.

Yes it would be good to know but that is a little complex to do, BMW dont make it easy

Yes when the dealer plugs the bike in and opens the programming software it looks at the bike's current iLevel, compares that to the latest and if there is a difference it then looks at the firmware revision on each ECU, if there is an update available it creates a "measures plan" which comes up on screen for the Dealer tech to look at and confirm it is correct. The tech then says OK and the programming software updates each ECU as needed, if a reboot of an ECU is needed or some follow up action like adaption reset the system prompts the tech to turn off ignition then detects it is off, prompts to turn ignition back on and does the follow up actions. At the end it creates an Operations Report of what has been done. My advise is to always ask for the Ops report so the owner has a copy of what was done. That is one way we built up the info for the firmware versions for the 650GS and the Husky Terra/Strada models

Hi Wayne,

Once again good information. I'll pass this on and see if he decides to get the s/w updated, then to ask for the Operations Report.
