1200RT flushed brakes now error codes appear?
« on: November 08, 2017, 06:01:36 PM »
Hi Guys, hope someone can help guide me as I seem to have created a real problem and not even sure if I can ride my bike. A 2013 1200RT. I do all my own servicing now that the warranty period has expired and bought the GS-911 a few months ago, which is brilliant. Flushed my brakes exactly as per every instruction I could find on YouTube and Hexcode etc. Front first, manual bleed then GS-911 bleed procedure, 3 times, perfect.
Did the same with the rear brakes, everything great. So proud of myself. However I then did an auto scan, which previously had all been good, apart from low battery (which always shows?.) and I have what appears to be two serious Fault Codes:
23980:Pressure Sensor rear wheel circuit. Signal implausible. Currently present :NO (does that mean it is OK?)
24105: Rear pressure sensor, control circuit, invalid signal. Currently present :NO
Cleared fault codes and started again. Done that three times but always the fault codes are there. I have clearly done something wrong but what do I do now. Any help or guidance would be just so welcome!

Good morning Blackamati, and welcome.  We will try to assist where we can.

Firstly, what is the battery voltage?  Proper voltage is essential to the operation of the ABS.  I normally connect a charger to the battery while I am working to ensure that it does not drain.  Maybe try that and keep the voltage in excess of 12V.

When you say you "Cleared fault codes and started again", what do you "start again"?  Do you mean that you bled the system again?

Once you have bled the system, clear the fault codes and cycle the ignition.

Do the errors return?

 :)Yes, as Jughead wrote!

Hello Norman and welcome in this forum

First, did you run an auto-scan before servicing your BMW?
That's the way to see the actual situation before opening the
brake fluid system.
Maybe you cycled the ignition while bleeding the system, there is no
battery charger connected, as BMW-Motorrad recommended,
you opened one bleeding valve and detected pressure is not in a range
that ECU expected so fault codes will be set.

Short writing, I would delete this faults, run the bleedingtest with GS911
again and scan the ABS for faults after that.

Hope this helps

You guys are just the best. Battery fully charged so I did exactly what you suggested and WOW the autoscan shows NO error codes at all. What a brilliant result I cannot thank you enough.
My son has a 2005 1200 GS with the servo ABS brakes. Can I ask.....do I flush the brakes in exactly the same way that I have done my RT? Or does the electric servo require a different procedure?
Sorry so many questions!
Again thanks a million Jughead and Schuppi😃

No, the servo assisted brake are another ball game altogether.

The system actually has 4 circuits with 4 different reservoirs, the 2 plastics ones you can see on the RHS of the handlebars and the one on the RHS of the rear subframe, and 2 on the pump itself.

Circuits are as follows:

Front control circuit (From the front brake lever to the pump)
Front wheel circuit  (From the pump to the front wheel)
Rear control circuit (From the brake pedal to the pump)
Rear wheel circuit (From the pump to the rear wheel)

You need to remove the tank, unplug the plug on the pump controller, and the bleed the front control circuit on the pump.  There are 6 bleed nipples on the pump, 3 for the front and 3 for the rear.  They are not in order!
Then bleed the rear control circuit.

Now plug the plug back into the controller.  Remove the caps on the reservoirs on the pump and fit a funnel to the front circuit.  Turn on the ignition, fill the funnel halfway with fluid, crack the bleed nipple on the front caliper open and squeeze the front brake lever.  The pump will activate and pump the fluid out, automatically replacing it with the fluid in the funnel.
Close it all up again and do the same with the rear circuit.

Hello

Bleeding the control circuit as BMW-Motorrad recommended:
Bleeding

In the following sequence
Front metering cylinder  1
Front integral circuit  2
Front integral circuit  3
and again
Front metering cylinder  1

1. slowly operate brake lever until brake light switch clicks (blow-by bore closed)
2. open the bleed screw
3. slowly operate brake lever to full extent of its travel and close bleed screw
4. slowly release the brake lever
5. repeat steps 1-4 until the brake fluid emerges clear and free of bubbles
6. be sure that the reservoir is allways filled with new brake fluid

Same procedure for the rear control circuit!

Hi guys, thank goodness I asked you otherwise I would have started on the GS1200 with servo not realising what a minefield it was.....or is😱
You have given such clear instructions all should be possible.
