Older GS-911 won't connect to GS-911 download utility?

(1/2) > >>

WOLVERINE:
Just trying to hook up my GS-911 to my laptop and the GS-911 downloader utility won't connect. It keeps giving me a

" Failed to communicate with the GS-911 interface, please check that the interface and USB cable is connected properly to a USB socket. No USB devices found "

First time I've ever seen this message. There is power to my GS-911 as the green light is on. It goes from red, to blue (flashing) to green like it normally does. I have an older download utility saved somewhere but that shouldn't make any difference?
Any ideas?

GS Jim:
Start by updating your utility and then firmware, make sure you are not in D2D mode. Which GS911 are you using?

WOLVERINE:
I have a GS911 Blu, one of the original ones, from 2008/06
Can you walk me through this process? What is D2D mode?
I Can't get into the downloader utility past the initial startup window.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

GS Jim:
OK no D2D on the non wifi unit, you should always state the GS911 model, PC and OS and bike year and model, just helps on the back and forth.

If your computer is not recognizing the USB connection try restarting it also.

WOLVERINE:
Sorry about that, it's a model 40067208 from 2008. I'm on an ASUS laptop using windows 10. I tried restarting the laptop, no diff!
I uninstalled the driver as mentioned on Hexcode, then started the downloader utility, then connected the GS-911, still no go. Same error! I wonder if the laptop is installing the wrong driver? This is where I get lost! I'm powering up my old blackberry to see if the mobile version works when it's connected to my 2008 R1200GS ADV. If that doesn't work then I'm at a loss.
