2017 bikes with OBD connector: Can I use an adapter
« on: November 01, 2016, 04:28:05 PM »
My '17 R1200GSA has an OBD connector.  It's a 16 slot connector and slots 4,5,6,14 & 16 have pins.

Will my GS911 Wifi work with my bike with a simple adapter?

Thanks.

Apparently you use a g00gle account to host the pictures?
Unfortunately, they do not show unless you make them public or something.,..

Yes Google makes it difficult.  If you use Chrome and are logged into Google I think you can see them.

I can email you the photos if you have a way to put them up for everyone to see?

Hello
Yes, I think it will work. Just built your own adapter from GS911 to OBD connector (diagnostic plug)

4    Bike ground ,                    BMW Motorrad  br pin4
5    Signal ground,                  BMW Motorrad  > connect with pin4
6    CAN High (J-2284),            BMW Motorrad  ws/rt  pin7
14    CAN Low (J-2284),             BMW Motorrad  ws/gr  pin9
16    Battery (+)-permanent,      BMW Motorrad   rt/gr   pin6

Thank you very much.  I found a cheap cable to order.  The pins should match you diagram but if they don't I'll but it in half and splice correctly.

I sold my old GS 911 and bought the new one due to ordering a 2017 RT. Will there be a factory adapter? If so, when might it be available.

Thanks,

Ron

Hi Ron,
Think that's one new construction part on the hexcode roadmap.
Just wait and watch http://www.hexcode.co.za/products/gs-911/roadmap

Not sure what I was thinking about the cable I ordered.  Both ends were wrong which makes sense as it's a cable to convert BMW diagnostic to OBDII.

Anyway I can confirm that the GS911 Wifi 100% works with my '17 GSA.  I used four wires to temporarily connect the pin from the OBDII connecter to the GS911.  Had to experiment a little to find Can high and low of the GS911 wifi but once I figured it out it worked just like it did on my '15 GSA.  I was able to reset the service reminder and scan all modules for faults.  The Iphone app doesn't work worth a crap but it didn't work much on my '15 GSA either.  The windows software works 100%

I will be making my own cable as I don't think one exists at this time with the proper female connectors.  Is it possible to get a BMW diagnostic plug some place other than from a totaled bike or a dealer?

The pinout conversion is as follows:

OBD pin 16 to GS911 pin 6 (12v +)
OBD pin 4 to GS911 pin 4 (ground)
OBD pin 6 to GS911 pin 7 (can high)
OBD pin 14 to GS911 pin 9 (can low)

The adapter cable is now available from the Beemershop. Here is the link:

Good friends, yesterday tested the obd2 test cable in a BMW C650 Sport from March 2016 and it does not work.
No current arrives I have consulted my dealer and I am informed that there is a modification of the wiring for this motorcycle.
So I'll keep waiting for a new cable.

Which Dealer did you consult, the GS911 Dealer or BMW Dealer ?

Thanks, understood, report your problem to Hexcode via a support ticket as well http://www.hexcode.co.za/contact-us-1

The final pic in your post re the problem showed there were 2 instances of GS911 software open on the PC and one of the other pics suggested you were using WiFi, I take it you had the same problem with both methods of access ?

I was told that the problem is the OBD2 cable
