Title: Running GS-911 1st Time Turned On Heated Grips
Post by: Fathom on June 18, 2014, 05:29:30 AM
...full blast. Anyone else experience this? The dash did not indicate that they were on and I didn't turn them (or leave them) on, but they were almost burn-your-hands hot while running the diagnostics.  Cycling through the heated grip settings on the controls eventually turned them off. Also, fan test came up empty (no cycling of fans, but no fault codes, either). All the other tests in that segment (fuel pump, etc.) worked properly.

Bike is a 2013 R1200RT, U.S. version, if that helps.

The 1200RT has only a fan on the Authority-version of the R1200RT, the R1200RT-P.

Thanks very much for touching base on this.  I did figure that out, and feel a bit sheepish about not knowing about the absence of fans on the RT.  They really figured out how to keep it cool with just oil & air -- mighty cool, I'd say.

No Worries!

We are all here to learn and grow.
At least I do every day.  ;D

It is true that the 1200RT is fairly well balanced when it comes to keeping it cool.
Even in our current heat-wave in the Netherlands, the on-board temperature-indicator never goes beyond 2 bars.

Had this happen recently on a 2005 R1200GS. There were other issues so didn't think it was the GS911. But it was.
