Title: Adding DWA alarm
Post by: Fleabag on July 01, 2024, 05:53:14 PM
Timely edition of this feature, I just purchased a CE 04 and it does not have the alarm module. So I bought the DWA module and I plan on programming it but what about the key fob? With the 911 allow me to program the key fob?

The DWA manual tells you how to register the fob with the DWA.

Thanks, now that you mentioned it, I think I may have seen a reference to fob programming in one of my other owners manuals.

The DWA manual tells you how to register the fob with the DWA.

I couldn't get any fobs paired following the lies and rubbish in the user manual after 20 attempts - and nor could my local BMW dealership following the lies and drivel in the manual or even plugged in talking to home in Germany !!!!!

but easily set the alarm module in paring mode using the GS911 and as instructed pushed the buttons on the fobs - then things worked perfectly

I was able to install the module and now I have the alarm settings in the TFT, but I can’t find where to put the alarm module in “pairing mode”. If I go to the alarm module coding with the GS911, I get this. “There  seems to be differences or missing data in the VIN or coding data for this controller. This can occur if a previous coding procedure was interrupted. An attempt will be made to restore a known good coding configuration for this controller.“

I can’t resolve this error or get the alarm buttons on the fob to activate/disactivate the alarm.

I submitted a trouble ticket. If it’s resolved I’ll update this post for anyone that may come across this issue in the future.

Thanks for the ticket.
Just noting publicly here that we are working on your particular case (writing code to an uncoded XDWA controller), while botus is talking about the alarm remotes on the older DWA controller. The follow up request, coding remote buttons on the XDWA, is still in the investigation phase.

Thanks!

BTW, I met a guy from your team at BMW MOA rally in Redmond, I’m not sure who that was. It was interesting to talk to him about the recent updates you have been doing. Speaking for myself, I appreciate the effort with things like this alarm module, the recent update to the controller that allowed me to get the Aux driving lights indicator to work on my R18B TFT panel, etc. Much appreciated!

Resolved! The alarm module now works and the fey fob too.

That’s good to hear.

Please can you tell us how you did it as I’ve run into exactly the same problem on my 2022 1250 gsa.

Gs-911 can see alarm unit, I can enable it. I can also get the alarm settings on the TFT however I can’t code the keyless ride key to set the alarm.

Any pointers would be good to know.

My suggestion is to open a ticket with Hex code. They resolved it for me, but that resolution has not yet made it to a software update.

Once the module was recoded, the alarm fob keys worked, too.

Hi Cowasaki

We managed to get his alarm coded correctly with a specific coding loaded for his device. This was an extreme case though, which we do not expect to be the norm. If you have any troubles loading a new alarm, let us know on support@hexgs911.com with your autoscan and we'll see whether there is any manual action needed from our side.

Kind regards
Ruan

Do you know which alarms this will work with? I have the 2023 F850GS TE and have been looking for the right DWA for it. There are about 4 or 5 versions shown as discontinued and replaced with the newest one but are they compatible enough to still work including the key? If I can pick up a second hand DWA then the cost of that plus the GS-911 is about the same as a new DWA and BMW fitting and coding it!

Hi Cowasaki

Can you please supply the part numbers of the ones you're looking at? We're only aware of the DWA, XDWA and new XDWA9.

Kind regards
Ruan

Thanks. When I enter my bike’s model and year ie F850GS TE 2023 it states that I need SKU: 65755A958C2

It then lists several models that this new version replaces ie:

Other Names:
Superseded
Description:
For vehicles with central locking system [X417A (+)] or alarm systems [X603A (+)]. --.
Notes:
Dwa8 basic.
Replaces:
65751541294, 65755A78C89, 77538530130, 77538535032, 77538548251, 77538554348, 77539443591

DWA8 Basic is what we call the XDWA. I believe the "Replaces" part numbers are the previous iterations, but are all DWA 8 modules and should all be compatible with your bike.
Getting any of these second hand and retrofitting with the GS-911 will be the simplest solution. I've moved one of these alarms between quite a few bikes during testing.

I picked up a DWA8/XDWA/DWA Basic alarm, part number 65755A958C2, and am attempting to code it to my USDM 2024 S1000XR.

It appears to have coded as the module now reports my VIN when I query it.  My remote, with two buttons, will cause it to beep 3 times (instead of the manual's listed 2) when hitting button 1, and one time when hitting button 2.  Notably, putting button 1 a second time will cause it to beep 3 more times, but subsequent button 1 presses do nothing.

The turn signals do not flash.  Jostling the bike does not set off the alarm.  Unplugging the alarm in what I assume is the armed state will cause it to go off.

I do not have any alarm settings available in my instrument cluster under Vehicle Settings.

What am I missing?

Tilt sensor status says uncalibrated.  Live values from the DWA module show angles being recorded correctly, and they adjust when I move the module.  Reading just another paragraph in the owners manual, the second press is to arm without the tilt sensor, which results in 3 beeps.

Seems like my problem is the tilt sensor isn't calibrated, and I'm not seeing a way to calibrate it.

Throwing in the towel for now.  I did find in the body controller (lite) under just "configuration" for online coding there was a toggle for the alarm's existence.  I turned that on and now the indicators blink when arming/disarming, but the tilt sensor calibration is nowhere to be found and I can only arm the alarm with the 3 beep situation.

emailed to open a ticket and HEX got back to me within a few hours -- the missing step was the "retrofit" procedure, as my bike didn't have the delivery coding for the alarm.  This is located in the parent menu under "Service Reminder / Vehicle Functions".

All is well, now!  Thanks again to Ruan and Wilco!

Been trying to add alarm on gs1250 for almost 3 months the retro fit doesn’t allow key buttons to be recognised , I will end up taking to dealer and sell 911 as it was the only reason I purchased to add alarm .

From what I'm reading, some bikes specifically have a 'pairing mode' to learn the controllers.  My '24 XR doesn't, but yours might. Have you emailed hexcode?  Run an autoscan, save it, and attach it to an email to support@hexgs911.com -- they got back to me within a day with the solution.

BMW tools, or a qualified garage says it's not working?

When you say 'Hex sees module' do you mean it's listed in the autoscan? That simply means it's responding to diagnostic messages on internal CAN.

The GS-911 can perform retrofit and marrying of these controllers yes.
What bike are you doing the work on?

2015 bmw gsa
I tried to marry it today
It will not do it ( well I don’t think it has )

You do the retro fit / marry part
It then tells you you can go to another section
To adjust things ?
But no vin number is showing
And in another part there is loads of calibration things
But it says not calibrated
I’m sure I have the right unit 554348
Guy off eBay said it was old new stock he bought from dealership it looks brand new

I’m guessing if the hex is talking to it
It must be working to a degree

My bike went in to Lind bmw to have the alarm programmed
I was told it’s not working your guess is as good as mine on that

I suspect one aspect of what your retrofit requires is lined up for the current release that will be available today or tomorrow.
Can you open a support ticket and send through an autoscan. I just want to double check everything on our end. Ask for me directly  :)

hello
i made it!!
first check all the connections os the dwa and the bike are ok
then with the gs911 made a retrofit of the dwa
then in the keyless section enable the com between the keyless and the bike
then go to the dwa section and config your setting in the basic and the in te advanced tab
and done!! you have a working alarm and you can activate and deactivate with the keyless buttons!!
