When I email scans for individual controllers (kombi etc) they go no problem but when I try to email the autoscan nothing happens, no idea why. Anyone else had issues like this? 911 wifi 1510.3 2015 f700gs
-
I email autoscans to myself when checking machines and have not encountered a problem on any of the WiFi firmware versions
-
I'm going to try 2 of my other PC's that each have different os and email programs and see what happens, not till Monday, going dirt biking!!
-
OK here's what I have
Computer 1 XP SP3, Office Outlook 2007
Computer 2 Windows 7, Live Mail 2011
Computer 3 Windows 8.1 Live Mail 2012
2015 R1200 GS
2015 F700 GS
GS911 wifi 1510.3
Tried both bikes with all computer randomly selecting controllers, fault codes etc. and all emailed no problem, but the autoscans would not email when I clicked on the box for it, the little hand with pointy finger thing shows up and the box seems to activate but won't fire up the program, I even tried having it open first but nothing. I'm not sure what more I could do.

You have done all the right things and I am satisfied there is a problem, lodge a support ticket with Hexcode, there is also a thread on the forum re the release you could copy paste you info to so Kobus picks up on it

-
Um, pardon me for maybe sounding dim, but how do you lodge a support ticket, I am after all a newbie.
-
Apologies, there is the email support on the GS911 interface but in this case email fro the Hexcode web site would probably be better ;D

Thanks Wayne, emailed them (and it sent no problem ;)) so we'll see what happens, stay tuned

Hi GSJim
Your own suggestion to try different browser/email combinations is going to work best!
We have seen this before and it is usually the handover from the browser to the email software that does not allocate enough space in memory for the Autoscan content.
This happens frequently on modern bikes with lots of controllers or bikes with many fault codes.
Unfortunately this is outside our control as every vendor implements this differently.
The best workaround is to cut and paste the data or try a different browser/email combination like Firefox, Chrome or Opera/Safari with e.g.Thunderbird.
I will ask the marketing team to add this to our FAQ as well.
Hope that helps

Thanks for chiming in Peet, was not aware of it but then I use Firefox/Thunderbird on all the platforms I use other than Android where it is firefox and the inbuilt mail app without any problems. You may like to chime in on this thread as well

Well I tried firefox/thunderbird and had the same results on both the R1200 and F700, no fault codes (7GS has 5 controllers vs 7 for th12GS) I guess I give up.
-
GSJim
Which OS was this Windows 7/8/10?
Can you maybe cut & paste the autoscan here so that I can try that on my firefox/thunderbird combination too?

On the "Garage" laptop its good ole XP and autoscan doesn't go but single controllers do, the house laptop (the wives) its windows 7 and I actually got it to work (firefox/thunderbird) BUT it only included up to part of the second controller (kombi), my tablet is 8.1 but I need to reformat as its full and don't want to add anything more at the moment. first paste is the full autoscan that I cut and pasted to a email (on live mail 2011) it was a total of 86 kb when I sent it to myself. The bike is the 2015 R1200 GS. I took the liberty of removing all the empty lines between almost every one to shorten it but still have the original, the straight mailed scan is way more compact

The next one is the partial autoscan as sent by Thunderbird, it was 7 kb when I forwarded it to my tablet.

This seems to work OK on my Linux laptop, but like I mentioned it is all dependant on the operating system and the software implementation. Unfortunately they(W3C) never specified a minimum required buffer size for the HTML mailto: implementation so we are basically hoping some platform has at least say a 4kB buffer to pass info into.
Using cut and paste instead is the best way to work around this for the moment.
But I can say that GS911 will soon (next year) have a web portal where you can access and search all the autoscan and fault codes history for all the bikes you have ever scanned. Your own online logbook history, so that should also help to address that issue.
Regards
Peet

Thanks a lot for working with me on this Peet, and also thanks to Wayne. Maybe this is how I talk the wife into a new garage computer. At least the individual controllers go so the work around isn't all that bad.
-
I took a quick look and could not find solutions to changing the mailto buffer size for Windows or Firefox/Thunderbird which was annoying, I thought there may have been a setting in about:config on firefox but no joy
-
Well I havn't given up yet, I tried Firefox and gmail and lo and behold it worked on the 7gs. Tried the 12 but now I get a "Bad Request error 400" page. A little research says to clean out cookies which I did and restarted but still the same. Using the XP. I guess I'll try a few more things.
-
I always have a reluctance to give up, I dont like machines that beat me, I prefer to beat them into shape so they work ;D
I even looked over at M$DN to see if the developers hanging round there had solutions to increasing buffer size bu no luck, will keep it in mind while I am doing other things, there is bound to be a solution out there somewhere
-
So chrome and gmail also works on the 7gs but still the same 400 error on the 12gs
