Title: Best way to prevent engine starting to enable voltage drop test please
Post by: Skim on April 11, 2020, 10:53:08 AM
I would like to do a voltage drop test on starting circuit. Sluggish starter but engine still starts before I can do get meaningful readings on multi meter.

What is the easiest/best way to prevent the engine from starting while cranking? Disconnecting coils comes to mind, but perhaps there is a better and easier solution?

Can damage be done by disconnecting the LT side of coils?

If there is a fuel pump relay...pull it out.

Skim,

I don't know which bike you own, but here in Germany it's standard: Put in a gear and swing out the side stand. Motor will not start. Solved your problem? Happy Easter,

Hannes.

Thanks Hannes,

R1150RT and Camhead R1200RT. 1150 has a fuel pump fuse, no problem.

Tried your suggestion on the camhead (2010) but engine does not crank, even with clutch pulled in. With the canbus no fuses. Had me excited nevertheless. There must be easier way than disconnecting all coils, or removing panels to get to remove the plug to the fuel pump controller.

Thank you and Blessed Easter to you and yours as well.
