Title: R1200gsa headlight failure
Post by: tonyw on February 07, 2022, 04:10:16 AM
Hi
My MY16 R1200GSA LED headlight has failed low beam and appears to have automatically switched to high beam. The GS911 gives the following errors:
E58C03: LED-EVG message timeout (Status LED Motorrad 2010)
E58C04: LIN ZSB message timeout (Eingang_Schalterblock_Erweiterung_Motorrad_2010_LIN)
E58C05: LED-EVG message timeout (Status Thermomanagement LED Motorrad 2010)
E58C00: LED-EVG message timeout (Zusatzinformation LED Motorrad 2010)
800ED7: LED-EVG Low-beam NTC invalid
E58C01: LED-EVG message timeout (Status Kanal LED Motorrad 2010)
E58C02: LED-EVG message timeout (Spannung LED Motorrad 2010)

Can anyone tell me whether these error messages refer to the LED assembly or the headlight control unit and suggest a path to getting it repaired?

Many thanks

Hello

E58C03:
Check lines and plug connections of LED LIN bus.If the above check found no abnormalities, replace the LED headlight control unit.

800ED7: LED-EVG Low-beam NTC invalid
Clear fault code memory on completion of diagnosis. If the fault cannot be deleted or is re-entered after being deleted, renew LED headlight. If the fault reoccurs, renew the LED headlight control unit.

Many errors point to the control unit

Thanks for that

I swapped my headlight out with another bike and nothing changed so it must either be in the wiring or the control unit as you suggest. Time to figure out where the control unit lives.

My headlight and control unit works perfectly in another bike so my failures aren't related to the headlight itself. To make it even more interesting the blinkers stopped working since yesterday apparently because I now have a fault code from the LHS switchblock
CD9420   No CAN message (status left multifunction switch from the KOMBI)
The fault is currently present.

I'm starting to wonder whether water has made its way into the main ECU

For anyone interested I now think I have the solution. It appears to be a unit hidden where it is extremely difficult to access called General Module "Light" which manages the left hand switch cluster and the lights. The BMW RepROM is totally unhelpful in diagnosing this problem.
