Title: GS 911 wifi HELP PLEASE
Post by: pacsman on August 10, 2014, 02:31:20 AM
I received the new GS911 wifi. Went through the download, registration and checked for updates. I have not been able to get my unit and K1200LT to see each other. I get a error every time I select K1200LT.

On my 2011 and 2014 RT I am able to see the bike, but on both bikes when I try to read and fault or ECU information, I get error that run switch is not on, or faulty wiring, or something about unit not connected.

What am I doing wrong? it should not be this hard to connect. I do not see any user manual online for the new wifi unit to try reading to figure it out.

Thanks,
Troy

Do you have a PC and the PC software set up to confirm correct operation using the unit in USB mode ?

Wayne,

How do I check this? I see  nothing on the quick start that came with it, or nothing about that on the website for the wifi unit. Also it is the same scenario and errors when I just use the gs unit and iphone. I connect the iphone to the gs network with the same results.

I would isolate whether it is a basic hardware fault or firmware/WiFi by plugging the unit into A USB port and downloading and installing the PC software then using that into the bike. If that works then I know the hardware aspect is OK

I guess I am spoilt in having the Notebook to take out to the bike, I have already tested the WiFi unit using both USB/PC and WiFi so I know it is all OK
on the unit I have here

Ok. you are ahead of me on the checking, did not realise that was what you did.  What Version of Windows, and GS911 software ?

Windows 7 Professional
0.192 -
GS911 firmware 0.192 - 0.94

Base system version 0.24 - 0.9 - 1

Data pack version 88

Wifi module version 31.8

and now somehow I have messed it up so I will not find the home network, only can connect to it via D2D mode.

OK, smart move I get to that point with IT work regularly

WiFi versions look fine but what version of Traditional PC GS911 software did you use with the USB connection ?

that's the problem, I don't know if it ever sees me connected via usb cable. I have been connected via cable the whole time other than trying it with the phone. At that point I was using the GS network. My home network has a pretty weak signal when I take laptop to the garage.

Is their a way to somehow tell it to use usb and not wifi?

Yes load the latest GS911 PC software, not just the WiFi utility. Look on it as 2 tools in one just like the bluetooth unit

Wayne,

Thank you..... that worked, I am able to connect to all 3 bikes and run through the diagnostics and check for any faults. I did not realize you had to download both utilities. It worked connected via usb cable. I did not try the wireless connection again though. For now I am happy that I can connect to them.

Thanks again

Pleased to hear it, the difficulties on WiFi will still need Hexcode to look at, I am sure one of the Hexcode people will look in on this shortly

I also need some help. I got my gs911 wifi in the mail Saturday and tried it out this morning. I have a 2014 R1200RT LC. When I connect my gs911 either to my PC or my iphone via the wireless network I get the motorcycle (device) is not supported in the fields. If I select the either one of the liquid cooled models of the R1200GS. I can read the data from my RT LC on my PC and my iphone. Am I doing something wrong or does hexcode still need to update the software for the 2014 RT LC?

Have you updated the firmware and software?  There was a similar bug with k1600gtl where you could use k1600gtle that they've fixed.   May be same with r1200rtlc

update....

yes I have latest firmware and software. i still can not get any kind of reading from the 2014 RT. i tired choosing the GS and GS adventure water cooled. Same error, no communication from controller. it says i do not have the ignition on. I am pretty sure the controller is not the problem since its working on my other 2 bikes. This is all via USB. I can get no where with the wireless on any bike. In D2D mode i have tried both laptop and phone. I connect one of them to the GS network and all i get is the run switch is not in the run position (it is in run) controller not connected (it is because it works in USB mode on 2 bikes) or faulty wiring.

Using the normal USB connection and PC software to compare the difference in response between WiFi mode and normal mode can assist in tracking down the cause of any problems
