2015 F700GS. The dealer performed a low octane fuel remap. Is there a way to verifiy that the work was actually performed using a GS-911?
-
Yes, an autoscan will tell you the firmware version but I have not seen a list of which firmware is low octane for the F700/800 Series. When having a Dealer reprogram a machine it is best to ask for the operations report as it will tell you the firmware version before and after the programming
-
Thanks Wayne. Now I wish I had done a scan when I first purchased the machine. :-[ My after the fact scan is below. I assume "Program status" is the current program. For my '07 650 thumper that entry was called "Program release."

Yes, knowing what is in there before giving it to a Dealer is wise, as is always asking for the operations report as it tells you they actually hooked it up to diags ;D. Understand though the Dealer system like all software systems is not perfect and I would not be surprised if there were circumstances where the system falsely reported to the Dealer that no upgrade was needed even though updates were available
In terms of your autoscan, the unknown iLevel indicates it is a later version than the GS911 is aware of so make sure you are on the latest GS911 software, if it up to date like 1510.3 Hexcode will catch up in the next release and your machine is obviously updated
The Part No.:8545091 indicates the programmed part number, in your case BMSKP7 and the operating system which is the latest for your model, lodge a support ticket with Hexcode as the GS911 is reporting BMS-KP2 which appears to be an error
The Program Status indicates the data version which is market and fuel grade but I am sorry, I dont know whether it is 91 or 95 fuel
-
Thanks again Wayne. I am running GS-911 version 1510.3.
-
Wayne,
There was a slight change in the latest release:
GS-911 version 1510.3: Actual I-Level:Unknown I-Level:0x8a
GS-911 version 1511.2: Actual I-Level:K024-15-11-500
It's still reporting BMS-KP2.
I must be the only F700GS rider who has a GS-911 as I am still unable to obtain an answer to my original question.
-
Ah pleased the new version recognizes the iLevel, thought it might
Re your original question, the real problem is BMW operates as a secret society, they only ever tell people what they dont need to know ;D
The result is very few people understand the Part No and Program status: 570I / Date release: 2F93 which tell what you want to know and it takes considerable effort to do the research and work out what all the firmware releases are and what they mean. I did all of that for the 650GS/CS/X models with the assistance of people around the world, the 650 is the only model I am aware of the work has been done for
-
This is from my Autoscan on a 2015 F700 GS, there have been no remaps, 911 wifi up to date and no actual I-Level.

Interesting GSJim, the Date Release and iLevel is different to Ed J which tells us there is an update your machine is likely to receive at the next service
-
The date release seems to be in code, and without the actual I-Level how do I know what I have?
-
Actual iLevel not set indicates the machine is still as per when it left the factory as far as I understand it
BMW dont seem to want people to understand what firmware is in there, their system is not very transparent to say the least, there are 2 iLevel updates for K024 model range since K024-15-03-500 but I cant tell you whether than means newer firmware for the F700GS model, the change in Date Release showing on Ed J auto scan suggests there is an update
-
First, thanks GSjim. Comparing:
Date release:2E13 (GSjim)
Date release:2F93 (Ed J)
Factory I-Level:K024-15-03-500 (GSjim)
Factory I-Level:K024-14-08-500 (Ed J)
Actual I-Level:Not set (GSjim)
Actual I-Level:K024-15-11-500 (Ed J)
I also have an entry not on Jim's list: "HWOE No.:102098627." My GS-911 is an older model (not wifi), but is running the latest release.
The dealer did not indicate there was any general update for the F700GS series. I requested a remap to run low grade fuel and that's what is on the invoice.
I've run through four tanks of regular (87 AKI) fuel since the remap I've not seen any difference in performance or mileage. YMMV.
