2019 BMW K1600 GT Windshield Mechanism Locked UP
« on: October 23, 2025, 07:27:12 PM »
I installed a used mechanism for the windshield with only 6,500 miles on it.  When I used the switch to raise the windshield it went up just fine.  Problem is it now is stuck in the up position.  I used my GS-911 to run  a calibration it came back with the message "A negative response was received from the vehicle.  The preconditions or sequence order was not met for this controller."  That is all.

So questions are:

What does that message mean?
Could a fuse have been blown while I ran the windshield up, If so where is it?
If there is no fuse, did the buss shut it down, if so how do I turn it back on?
What other conditions (not being met) is GS-911 talking about?

I'm stuck just like my  windshield and haven't been able to find much on the subject.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello
If the basic module satellite (GMS) control unit detects an open navigation system compartment, the windshield moves to its upper end position. Further movement using the windshield control buttons is not possible.
Excessive twisting or vibration in the area of the navigation system compartment and the navigation system compartment switch may result in an error message regarding the navigation system compartment status.
If this occurs while the vehicle is moving (without any action by the driver), an error message is entered in the basic module satellite (GMS) control unit.
The windshield adjustment remains locked.
Functional test of the navigation system compartment switch:
Create a load similar to that experienced during driving in the area of the mechanics and panels of the windshield and navigation system compartment (slide, mount, guide, bracket) by pressing, tapping, and touching with your hands.
At the same time, observe the displayed status of the navigation system compartment switch.
