Anyone come across this fault (F650GS single spark)
« on: May 09, 2014, 08:56:41 PM »
1539: Error in BMS-Compact Control Unit, Error in Bank2.
It is on a F650GS single spark.
Any ideas what / where bank 2 is ????

BMS-C is the F650 ECU.
I never knew , do not understand the "bank2" OR the fault number (1539)
If you do NOT have a problem with you bike, try forget it  :D
Have you tried using the GS911 with the latest stable software AND the latest Beta?
I will try find a solution (explanation) to the 1539 fault code but need some time.

Hi,

The program memory of the BMS-K is devided in banks. Each bank is 16 kbyte in size, it has 8 banks, so that's 128k byte in total. This program memory contains your engine management system, and the fuel and spark maps. The error suggests there's a problem with this program memory.  You could ask you dealer to update your BMS-K to the latest version. Version 8000-3606 was the last version (in europe). I had my F650GS updated about a year ago for about € 50,-

Charlie

The 650GS has a Hella BMSC not a Bosch BMS-K but the error could be memory, there is provision for only Bank 1 or bank 2 errors in the BMSC fault codes which may reflect less memory in the BMSC. I have seen that error in a BMSC on the test bench but the unit was working in the bike

If error 1539 (decimal) is the same as error P0603 (hexadecimal) then this DTC means "Internal Control Module Keep Alive Memory (KAM) Error". According to www.obd-codes.com this means:

"The keep alive memory is the memory that is stored in the powertrain control module (PCM) in regards to drive cycles. This memory is ever changing based on driving inputs and sensor inputs. When you disconnect your battery this memory is erased and the computer goes into "dumb" mode as it is using the built in parameters to run the engine and not the learned values based on driving inputs and habits as well as what the engine sensors see."

Then again, it's not said that BMW used for their model 2000 motorcycles the same DTC's as car builders do.

The 650GS BMSC is different to the BMS-K and adaptions are not reset on battery disconnection, that was only on the early MA Series Bosch ECU's
