Thanks Chris. Probably a dumb question but just thinking ahead.

LOL as I often need to google the answer to some of those anti spam bot thingies too.

Longer cables can be bought IF you need it- and not expensive.
I guess the expression "expensive" is open to dicussion....
That said, MY cable was NOT that long.
My GS911 was one of the first so I do not know.
I am sure the USB cable lenght can be found on the Hexcode site?

Thanks Haakon. Guess I can buy a super long one from the computer mall.
IIRC USB can do around 5+ feet OK.
Actually 1.8m would be about 5 1/2 feet so if that's the supplied length, all is good.  :)
Thanks for your reply.

Hilton, you can go much longer than 5' with USB extenders, I've got one here at work that was about 5 metres.
Here's one that's local to you on ebay..    ;)

It is almost impossible to say what the max lenght "can" be.
5 meters = 16 feet may work ok with the GS911.
MAYBE  :)
I use a 16 feet for my printer, but never tried that lenght on the GS911

While a long cable might work for normal use, I suspect that as soon as you start the bike communications would stop due to EMI from spark plugs and coils (it also depends on the quality of your laptop/PC USB port).

The bike might sound like a sewing machine, but it's actually quite noisy when it comes to EMI :)

Thanks.
I can buy a 5 meter cable for about 80 rand.
Good point about the interference when running.
Guess I'll just have to see what happens....

Shorter is better- for once :-[
The max lenght stated by the DEC is 5 meters- as Kobus say.
Interference can be a issue but by careful routing not a huge problem.
The inbuitl shield mesh should prevent that.
I do not think anyone have had any problems.
More than 5 meters can cause a speed problem- but again, not likely.
The max speed of the diagnostic system is actually low compared to other uses.
