Path of Exile 2 (PoE2), the much-anticipated sequel to Grinding Gear Games' acclaimed action RPG, has been making waves in the gaming community since its early access launch in December 2024. As of April 2025, the game continues to evolve, with developers actively addressing feedback, introducing new content, and refining gameplay mechanics to enhance the player experience.
One of the significant developments in PoE2 is the introduction of the "Dawn of the Hunt" update. This update brought forth the "Trial of the Sekhemas," a challenging gauntlet that players must complete to ascend to the next power level. The trial comprises seven sequential challenges and culminates in a boss fight against Rattlecage, the Earthbreaker. Players can use relics and must manage their "honour" as they proceed through increasingly cursed rooms. Initially expected to last around six months following its December 2024 launch, the early access period now appears extended, with a year in early access more probable. Game director Jonathan Rogers emphasized the importance of quality over rushed scheduling, stating that the team hopes to complete early access this year but is prepared to take additional time to ensure a polished final product.
In terms of community engagement, PoE2 introduced its first Race Event on March 2, 2025. This event, open to all players, featured three different rounds where participants competed to be the first to kill Doryani in Act 3 in a Standard Solo Self-Found layout. Prizes included exclusive Unique Items and an Alienware Laptop with custom decals. The races were streamed live via the Path of Exile Twitch channel, fostering a sense of community and competition among players.
Looking ahead, the upcoming Update 0.2.0 promises to introduce new Ascendancy classes, support gems, and unique items. Teasers have hinted at a new Minion-focused Ascendancy for the Mercenary class, as well as support gems like Embitter and Derange, which aim to enhance specific skill builds. Quality of life improvements, such as Weapon Locking and Atlas Passive Tree expansions, are also anticipated, reflecting the developers' commitment to refining the game's systems and providing players with more customization options.
