Phone and GS911 on same netword

(1/1)

geoffmurray:
Something I found today which was interesting is that my GS911 was on the 2.4Ghz network and my iphone was connected to the 5Ghz version of the same network and everything still worked. I was under the impression both had to be on 2.4Ghz.

GS Jim:
I assume you are referring to your home network. Some transmit both frequencies on separate password (can be different or same) protected networks. Others only have one password protected network that decides which frequency to use depending on device and/or proximity. Right now 4 of 9 connections are 5 and the rest 2.4 on my home network, all set by the WIFI gods and not me.

geoffmurray:
Yes I am. Both frequencies have the same password but the GS911 operates on 2.4 and the phone was connected to 5 only and they could still both talk to each other.

GS Jim:
Which one is yours

Dual-band router
A dual-band router can transmit at both frequencies simultaneously. This creates two networks, usually with the same name except for a "2.4G" or "5G" at the end. You can then connect devices to either network.
Combined SSID
A combined SSID broadcasts both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz on the same network name. The router and device will automatically choose which band to use based on the device's capabilities and connection.
Tri-band router
A tri-band router broadcasts three networks simultaneously: two 5 GHz signals and one 2.4 GHz signal. This is a good option for homes with a lot of network congestion or heavy high-resolution streaming.

I use a combined.

geoffmurray:
Dual band.
