Should I?
« on: August 04, 2021, 11:26:37 PM »
Should I fit the 4 year old v1 Denali CanSmart that I took off my 2017 R1200GS onto my new ‘21 R1250RT along with the Denali D4 lights?

Or take the opportunity to upgrade to the v2 Denali CanSmart. / Hex EZCan?

I’ve had no problems with the v1 CanSmart and the light’s harness has proprietary connectors so easy to fit BUT I'm not sure what the life expectancy is of these units. Lots of v2 units seem to have been dying and needed replacement.

Cheers,

Simon

Well, in case anyone is in a similar position - I fitted the V1 CanSmart onto the ‘21 RT and all works ok. I’m not going to risk trying to update the firmware when it’s working. Just had the bike away for a 3 day trip and no problems - both front D4 2.0 lights, the extra brake led seemed fine with no apparent issues and functions like the strobe with horn still ok.

If it does go belly-up I’ll likely just replace the unit with a new version.

Hi Simon

We've investigated the slight increase in failures on our Gen II ezCANs and identified the problem. We've since improved our epoxy formula, you can read up on this below:
