2008MY F800GS re-program the BMSKP
« on: August 09, 2018, 07:08:38 PM »
It seems the control unit has gone West.
The plan is to buy a used unit and "introduce" it to the existing CAN nodes on the bike, it seems this part is fairly widespread.

My GS-911 is  GS40068801-18A9 Bluetooth capable: Yes
WiFi capable: No

Before I launch into the murk, does anyone know if my plan is achievable using a GS-911.
Many thanks in advance
Jim

The plan is not achievable even with BMW Dealer software as the BMSKP stores the master EWS records matching VIN & keys

Wow, this doesn't look good.
But hang on does this mean that bikes equiped with units have to be scrapped when the units fail?
Surely not.

Bikes with a failed BMSKP can have a new BMSKP programmed up by a BMW Dealer and existing keys added into the replacement BMSKP

It may be possible to buy a used BMSKP with the keys for that VIN/BMSKP & then add your existing keys into it but it would be a gamble

The question on my mind is why you consider the BMSKP has gone west, can you communicate with it using GS911 ?
