G'day folks,

In the last couple of weeks I have bought the usb GS911 for my K1200rs/gt 04.

Got the downloader tool and the correct software for my model gs911.

I am running Windows Vista and the green light on the gs911 unit lights up solid.

The unit was able to test the engine functions but not the abs functions, which is very important.

The GS tool is no longer sensing the engine ecu or the abs ecu.

The plug is sprayed with electronic cleaner as are the GS tool sockets.

These screenshots are today's result.

Any hints tip or suggestions very much appreciated and thanks in advance.

Are you sure:
Kill switch
Neutral
Immobilizer
are "off" (or "on") and working?
I think that also mean the rear and sidestand sensors.
-------------
I do not have a K1200 but will anyhow try on my bike- to see what message the GS911 give.
Will do so tomorrow.
Unless the GS911 team answer you before that

G'day Haakon,

Yes all these switches are in correct position and the engine was running for those tests with the screenshots.  The GS911 just does not seem to talk to the bike at all except for some basic identification like part number and brand of ecu.

I don't know what is going on.

Can a team member please help me here with my newly bought GS911 please?

best

I had a similar problem with an RT.  The bike had to be on the centrestand with the side stand folded away before the GS911 would comm with the ecu.

Thanks Jughead,

Your posts are carefully looked at in our K bike area as we have probs with our iabs devices too.

Centre stand is down and sidestand is up on this bike.

Kobus from Helpdesk is on the job with me and suggests a wiring malfunction.

Am looking into it today and need to get the wiring loom out and start looking for continuity breaks.

I had the unit completely refurbed at ASI in Tennessee and it has a pass sticker on it.

Front servo will fire up and pressurize front road circuit but abs light at 4Hz and general warning light on solid.

But the abs unit won't comm at all with GS911 so maybe a wiring rub or something is the factor.

Thanks for your interest and will keep this forum updated of any progress that I make.

All the best

Merlin, that suggests that the switches, side stand and centre stand are critical. Check the switches and the associated wiring very carefully. The wiring for both switches is in a place that make it susceptible to damage from road debris.

that bike is a MA2.4 based motorcycle.. that means if the engine is running, then all the boxes are ticked...

that leaves only communication between the GS-911 and the ECU(s)... which points to:
1) wiring harness issue on the bike, or
2) the GS-911 is not seated in the connector correctly.. (yes, this happens.. people don't know that the GS-911 has to twist-lock in place.. and then the pins actually don't make contact...

Thanks Stephan.

am twisting the ring gear to lock the GS911 into place.

Could it be that the sockets in the GS911 are too large in diameter for the pins in the six pin bmw plug?

Will keep on with checking the wiring harness.

Here are today's screenshots that I sent to Kobus in the Hexcode helpdesk.

Glad to have your comment and will check.

Thanks again

once locked in place, you should not be able to pull the bike connector from the GS-911 - that way you know it is connected correctly

Could it be that the sockets in the GS911 are too large in diameter for the pins in the six pin bmw plug?
most unlikely - we use the BMW original pins and in the whole history of each and every GS-911 we've sold, we have not had this once...

Will keep on with checking the wiring harness.
I suggest getting the wiring diagram for your bike.. it will help a lot... in the mean time...

pls get me the first 10 digits of your bike's VIN number... starting with WB1

1. disconnect the battery
2. remove connector from the Engine control unit
3. remove the connector from the ABS control unit
4. check continuity between pin1 on the bike's diagnostic connector and pin14 of the Engine ECU, to pin31 of the ABS

you should have continuity between those 3 pins... Also good idea to use a switch cleaner on the connectors, making sure they good, dry and clean..

let me know whether this helps

Thanks Stephan,

What you have given me is of great help, I am working on the bike now to test those circuits.

The VIN WB1 054 7AX 4ZG 307 77 it is a factory K1200 GT 2004 police specs with the K41 motor.

Very much appreciate your kind help here and will continue working on the bike now.

thanks Merlin

yes, those pinouts are correct

ABS : pin31
MA2.4 : pin14
diagnostic connector : pin1

all these are connected together and should have continuity between them

Hello Stephan,

Have carried out those plug, connector tests and found engine ecu pin 14 has continuity with pin 1 on the diagnostic plug and with pin 31 on the abs connector.

Will now test the relay and see what resistance is there.

Hello Stephan,

Just tested the abs relay (blue) and found that when 12v power was applied to pins1 and 2 then there was no continuity between pins 3 and 4.

I don't know what this means but it seemed odd that with power on the relay switched to not conductive.

Thanks again for your kind help here.
