ESA Calibration: strange behaviour on 2008 R1200RT
« on: August 14, 2013, 12:31:17 AM »
Hi all

I tried to see what was going on in the  ESA Calibration Function

ESA Calibration screen was as follows:

Front Position               0
Front Maximum             0
Rear Position                0
Rear Maximum              4

Calibrate Front Suspension
Calibrate Rear Suspension

Tried to do the front Calibration and no noise was heard and an Error message came up in a  "ERROR Box" on the screen saying:
"Negative Response received from controller, conditions not correct or incorrect sequence of commands"

Then tried the rear and it started to "move"  it came up the Error message:
"Minimun pulse count not reached at rear"

What's does it mean ?

GS-911 Version: 1306.4

Great job!
Regards

Thierry

I have experienced similar problems.

Firstly, AFAIK, the front of the RT does not have ESA, thus the readings being 0, 0.

Then, retry the rear with the bike up on the centre stand.  I had to do it a number of times before I got the full calibration without errors on the rear.

Would appear that the stepper motor or something related is getting stuck.

Exactly the same problem on R1200RT 2009LE. Would give same error code on rear. (Had this problem before and the dealer said it was due to low voltage so the sensor 'lost' the settings. Had it recalibrated twice by dealers). I took the bike for a blast to get the battery fully charged, then did it again, result! Would agree with must be on centre stand. Good luck.

Final issue :  resolved  ::)

I have disconnected the stepper motor connector (blue one on my bike)

Applying 12v to the stepper motor:
Red to Red and black to black decreases preload (one helmet). Reverse increases preload (two helmets). Made this cycle several time.
Reconneted the stepper motor and performed the ESA Calibration

And now ESA Calibration values are as follows:

Front Position               0
Front Maximum             0
Rear Position                2
Rear Maximum              1008

I have'nt used my bike for 3 weeks, I guess the stepper motor was getting stuck.

Hopefully this will help someone in the future
