EWS warning on, unable to get failure codes
« on: August 03, 2016, 04:13:23 PM »
Working on an '08 GSA with an intermittent EWS fault. When the engine runs, our GS911 can perform a complete autoscan. When the EWS fault comes, no code retrieval is possible, the message "failed to read fault codes: Negative response received from controller: service not supported by controller" ...comes out. Anyone encountered this?

This EWS fault shuts down some functions of ZFE and BMS-K, so there is no GS911 connection available.

1. check wiring to ring antenna
2. change this antenna

Hello, I have the same problem with a GS2010 STD.  >:(

EWS written on the display,
Low beam on
No indication of the inserted gear on the display

GS-911 indicates only few ECU informations:
-Controller Name : BMSKP2
-Part No. : 07727478
-Hardware Index : C6
-Coding Index : 03
-Manufacture Date (YY/MM/DD) : 2010-02-03
-MCV : 0.6.2
-FSV : 0.77.46
-OSV : 2.3.1
-Manufacturer : Bosch
-Program status : 460I
-Date release : YA10
-VIN : Service rejected for unspecified reason
-Factory I-Level : K024-09-08-560
-Actual I-Level : Unknown

I would like to do some tests:
I found the ring antenna, but I can not find the wiring spare part: can someone tell me where I can find it or its part number?

All ideas are wellcome.

Thank you   ;)
Max

Hi Max

Not quite sure what part number you are looking for.  The complete ring antenna plugs directly onto the wiring harness.  Part number for the complete ring antenna is 61 35 7 705 247

Hi Jughead,
thanks for your reply....

What I want to know is if there is a dedicated ring antenna wiring harness to the ECU? or is there only the general wiring harness?

Thanks
Max

Hi Max

If there are any problems with the cables or plugs BMW offers REPAIR CABLE MAIN CABLE HARNESS
and special tools for it.

Hi all,
another question ... can you tell me if EWS turned on the starter motor has to work?
Someone told me that it should work, but there is no spark to start the engine.
Is it correct or not?

Thanks
Max

No, starter motor will not swing if EWS is displayed.

UPDATE:

The problem was the ECU. I had to replace the BMS-KP2 unit. >:(  >:( >:(
